mate-power-manager

just migrated a new install, from a fresh debian testing/sid to devuan testing/ceres. in debian/systemd everything's working ok in mate desktop. in devuan had some issues, one of which is a long standing issue (found in mate 1.18, 1.20, 1.22) : https://bugs.devuan.org//cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=240
so i decided to give another version of upower a try, mainly because mate-power-manager isn't really working in devuan. it's not just a missing desktop icon...,  no battery status change events and no suspend..
so, mixed repos (not recommended!) and gave antix upower (from antix 'testing' repo) a try, version 0.99.4-4.0nosystemd1 . till then, installed upower version was : 1:0.9.23-2+devuan1.3 .
right after "downgrade", mate-power-manager icon displayed correctly and suspend/battery status worked again..(also rebooted to doublecheck..).

sometime ago, there was another working solution : https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=13574#p13574 , using a different mate-power-manager package, not messing with upower.

p.s. people who might try this, don't mess up your systems.. take care of apt/preferences (to stick with devuan), before apt update/upgrade. and always keep backups!!

Re: mate-power-manager

You already mixed Debian testing (Bullseye) with Devuan testing (Beowulf which is based on Buster).  And with Ceres in the mix you're pulling from 3 Debian-based repositories . . . 4 if you include antix.

[offtopic]
long time debian sid user, used to mixing things (+frequent breakings big_smile ). nowadays using ceres, other releases on very low priority.
btw, antix sid repo has the same upower version. so you could say i'm not using bullseye smile

Re: mate-power-manager

AntoFox i know, and it's already mentioned in my first post, as the "alternative" solution. smile

just a question, since beowulf is now almost "stable" do you think the same repo/packages will work with current ceres?

Re: mate-power-manager

maybe, I've always built/tested and mostly used for testing, for both MATE and cinnamon.
For devuan ceres and debian sid packages are updated frequently and when you run apt-get upgrade some devuan packages will upgrade to debian version
example:
policikit-<devuan_version> to be --------> policykit-<debian_version>
upower-<devuan_version> to be --------> upower-<debian_version>

this can broke your desktop environment
If you use ceres/sid discourage upstream repo

Re: mate-power-manager

not using debian repos/sid since migration.
concerning upower, and due to versioning, it always picks the devuan version 1:0.9.xxx, instead of the 0.99.xx in other distros/releases.
but it does apply for policykit-1 , like you say.
