Ok how do I add backports to my sources.list I'm lost.
Offline
@jitterssnowpaw before adding backports you should setup you preferences, giving backports lower priority.
/etc/apt/preferences
Package: *
Pin: release a=ascii
Pin-Priority: 1000
Package: *
Pin: release a=ascii-backports
Pin-Priority: 100
apt-get -t ascii-backports install "package"
Offline
Hi Ozi . . . long time no see. Isn't backports already pinned in ascii? I use it so rarely, I've never checked if that's the case but that's what I've heard.
Offline
Isn't backports already pinned in ascii?
Yes.
The Release file has
NotAutomatic: yes
ButAutomaticUpgrades: yes
http://deb.devuan.org/merged/dists/asci … ts/Release
This equates to a pin value of 100 which means that the --target option is need for APT to install packages from there but they will be updated automatically from that repository once installed.
So no preferences file is needed.

@golinux & @ HoaS, thanks guys must have missed that in release notes somewhere. So I've met my quota of learning something new every day! But, I think I'll keep it anyway, for repos that aren't managed this way.
I'm busy in RL and I'm moving my Star build over to live-sdk!

I'm guessing it's

?
I am trying to install Wine Gecko but i do not see it in synaptic anywhere and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to install it.
As well as Wine Mono

No.
Try
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii-backports main
And I disagree with the advice in that link about only enabling backports to install packages — it is "safe" to leave backports enabled (because they are pinned to 100) and doing so allows the packages installed from there to be updated, which can be critical for stuff like the kernel packages.
I had a similar argument about this over at the MX Linux forums, interestingly.

Replace <release codename> with ascii in /etc/apt/sources.list then update again.
Your sources should look like this:
# /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii-updates main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii-security main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged ascii-backports main
EDIT: you don't need the deb-src lines unless you want to download the source packages.

FWIW you shouldn't use -Sy, partial upgrades can break Arch systems:

See also https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pacman/Rosetta & https://backports.debian.org/Instructions/
EDIT: try

Ok, right. Ok, how would I go about getting gecko and mono in the repo's?
Edit: Ok it worked XD ty
But I'm having a problem I want wine-gecko and wine-mono on my system I figured it would have been in synaptic by now. Is there anything like regular Debian repo's would they fix this?

Doesn't look like WINE is in ascii-backports, ironically
Perhaps try wine-development and see https://wiki.winehq.org/Gecko
There is also mono-complete, does that help?

OK, I don't use WINE so I can only quote from my provided link:
In most cases, the file(s) should be placed in /usr/share/wine/gecko.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
wine-staging : Depends: wine-staging-amd64 (= 4.9~jessie) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: wine-staging-i386 (= 4.9~jessie)

I'm trying to install wine-staging
I don't think it's a good idea to add the MX Linux repositories.
AFAIUI the .msi files should be installed automagically by WINE itself, you shouldn't have to do anything. But I may be wrong.
What does this say
aptitude why-not wine-staging-amd64
You may have to install the aptitude package to use that command and I don't think the staging version will behave any differently but anyway...
Brianna Ghey — Rest In Power

Ok:
root@kitsuneon:/home/kairo# aptitude why-not wine-staging-amd64
Not currently installed
The candidate version 4.9~jessie has priority optional
No dependencies require to remove wine-staging-amd64
root@kitsuneon:/home/kairo#
Ok I tried uninstalling wine itself and then selecting wine-staging and it says BROKEN PACKAGES XD I tried fixing them but I know there's some command somewhere out there to fix it cause I tried fixing them in synaptic gui and it won't do it.
root@kitsuneon:/home/kairo# sudo apt-get install -y wine-staging
