#176 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » no graphical login after upgrade any more » 2025-01-24 05:48:16

I always use xdm myself in devuan.

If slim isn't working anymore, I suggest xdm as  a possible alternative. Although if you use multiple desktop environments or window managers, this might not be for you.

#177 Re: Devuan » Why are systemd files present in Devuan? » 2025-01-21 21:53:48

@sinOjOs not just the government but corporations in general.

This is the same thought process of why x86 needs to be abandoned by insert distro here ________

I don't think we have gotten to a point where 32 bit is obsolete to where it can't be supported on any distro.

FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD support lots of old hardware some that is older than 32 bit x86.

So there's that.

While this isn't directly related, i feel like it has similar reasoning.

planned obsolescence is corporations mantra.  You can be pretty sure that systemd was created for a purpose similar to planned obsolescence.

Nothing sane anyhow.

@golinux if you want real nonsense that sounds like someone is digging into their butt for regurgitated crap, just listen to the current president talk.

Let us just say, I am an expert at making nonsense, but he has absolutely EVERYONE  beat.

There is no contest once you hear him ramble.

#179 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Devuan est à la traîne (google: Devuan is lagging behind) ! » 2025-01-21 00:11:50

@greenjeans is there any proper section for user spongebob's comment?

#180 Re: Off-topic » 2025 Topics: AI Controls, Global Datacenters, Microsoft, Oracle, etc. » 2025-01-21 00:09:57

@golinux I suppose so, but did you like the shots I just fired?

(joke thread being nonsensical)

#181 Re: Off-topic » 2025 Topics: AI Controls, Global Datacenters, Microsoft, Oracle, etc. » 2025-01-17 05:09:04

@golinux why can't we have one mindless thread where people just spew nonsense over and over again?

And I am not including the joke thread in that.

Shots fired!

#182 Re: News & Announcements » Merry Christmas » 2025-01-17 05:07:47

Sigh, this thread is an example of why I am not too fond of atheists just to be clear. They are always so cynical and  sometimes are such killjoys not to mention, exaggerated or flat out wrong.

#183 Re: Off-topic » US Proposes Forcing Google to Sell Chrome . . . » 2025-01-15 03:09:22

@golinux admittedly, I looked at the links and yeah it is somewhat random even from someone like me who has an "overactive imagination!"

wink

#184 Re: Off-topic » US Proposes Forcing Google to Sell Chrome . . . » 2025-01-10 06:06:53

@golinux erroenou assumptions? doubt it mostly

Overactive imagination? Yeah thats true. tongue

My imagination is always running.

#185 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Problems with ALSA and audio output ? » 2025-01-07 02:49:48

apulse doesn't seem to work anymore last time I tried in making sound work on firefox other firefox web ext fork

#186 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Screen Brightness app for SysTray? » 2025-01-07 02:45:20

light and xsct work for me

if you use certain window managers, you can autostart it  too when you log in.

Actually edit:

I just noticed I didn't read the title carefully enough.

My bad...

#187 Re: Off-topic » US Proposes Forcing Google to Sell Chrome . . . » 2025-01-07 02:44:30

pity golinux modified your post, now I don't know what specifically was stupid out of his last post.

Or out of line...

I imagine it might've made me chuckle if I had seen it. big_smile

#188 Re: Devuan Derivatives » GNUinOS - Libre » 2025-01-07 02:40:03

@aitor

The goal of privacy/security in any tech I feel like is to get as close to 100% as is feasible without needing to disconnect from the internet.

More or less, that would be whatever is 90+%

100% is impossible of course.

Security doesn't per-say is more about malware as a whole being blocked not just spyware. Privacy however is mostly about spyware being blocked.

As far as microcode updates go, hardware wise? is fine imo.

Software wise? too excessive. Don't need both.

But yeah, both privacy and security do have overlapping areas. I think 95+% security is possible, with OpenBSD
Linux probably 95% period.

Everything else falls way short probably unless it doesn't connect to the internet.

But yeah some of what has been said here is mostly accurate.

#189 Re: Off-topic » Thank you Devuan » 2025-01-01 14:40:51

I'd avoid rebasing on not-yet-screwed-up distro but go further and already change to *BSD (second largest family of libre OSes), like Hyperbola tries to.

Hyperbola devs could definitely use help and funds. The more funds they receive, the faster they can finish HyperbolaBSD's stable.

Also, the more architectures in the future they can support and so on.

Then a devuan fork could be formed from it.

I agree, linux is getting really bloated by crap.

#190 Re: Off-topic » US Proposes Forcing Google to Sell Chrome . . . » 2024-12-10 20:26:25

wouldn't know what psuedo transparency is or why it is important.

#191 Re: Off-topic » The Joke Thread » 2024-12-10 03:22:31

Try kiwi berries, they taste like kiwis without the annoying expletive pits.

#192 Re: Off-topic » US Proposes Forcing Google to Sell Chrome . . . » 2024-12-10 03:21:40

@greenjeans I myself use sakura, it has the fewest dependencies of any terminal I have seen while still having scrollback and other basic options I need including paste. smile

#193 Re: Off-topic » US Proposes Forcing Google to Sell Chrome . . . » 2024-11-30 03:34:43

@golinux I wish to do the same in the future.

At this time, I keep what I want to keep safe on a libre computer which I define as if it has backdoors, they are disabled, such as intel me and it has no blobs on it and is 100% RYP. Respects Your Privacy.

RYF as FSF talks about, is impossible currently. Respects your Freedom ain't possible yet.

Basically, the container approach.   I only have one computer for non-free stuff needed and it uses devuan.

The rest go Hyperbola with no blobs. big_smile

I would love it btw, if Google lost control of their Recaptcha nonsense more than google chrome.

For now, this is a start.

#195 Re: Off-topic » A Libreoffice Writer ODT that Crashes the Devuan Desktop » 2024-11-06 02:38:03

I have only had maybe one time where ODT crashed in libreoffice writer or focuswriter.

I had formatted it in one of those and then made edits in abiword.

Big mistake...

#196 Re: Off-topic » AI Safety » 2024-11-06 02:34:42

@golinux alrighty got it. Yeah, stubbornness and arrogance is good to put in that category of stupid.

Since people who are arrogant usually know almost nothing.

I don't think I know as much as I used to, I will say that.

I am a dot in this universe. Why should I have a big head anymore...

It did so well for me in my first 35 years

(sarcasm)

#197 Re: Off-topic » Several Russian Linux Kernel Maintainers Removed » 2024-11-06 02:30:13

@stopai

I would choose NetBSD over FreeBSD myself, like I would ever use a system that equates "The devil" with "being free"

Like hell... pun wasn't originally intended, but its still appropriate.

I rarely take such positions, but it disgusts me to support extremism on even the smallest level. Besides, FreeBSD has a lot of trash in it anyways from linux world.

As for the thread itself, someone pointed out libre licenses making such exports and embragos pointless.

I agree with that.

#198 Re: Off-topic » Several Russian Linux Kernel Maintainers Removed » 2024-11-04 09:04:18

@Devarch I hope you are being sarcastic... Bill Gates is the least  trusted person in big tech as far as I am concerned.

#199 Re: Off-topic » AI Safety » 2024-11-03 15:38:40

@golinux your definition of stupid includes narcissistic and arrogant?

#200 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Darkness - ISO Devuan Testing + TDE for AMD64 » 2024-11-02 17:59:24

Ah yes, KDE3... the last kde that looks semi-good.
