@zapper . . . I suggest you get to know greenjeans and his motivations better. He is doing it not only for the challenge but for people in his local community and I accept your apology on his behalf!

#103 Re: Off-topic » For those who like parody... » 2025-08-07 00:37:04

I couldn't understand what he was saying, silly!

#104 Re: Off-topic » For those who like parody... » 2025-08-06 15:34:20

That might as well be in Swahili. It is unintelligible to my old ears. Don't you have better things to do, zapper? Try staring at a blank wall. It would be preferable to that nonsense . . .

#105 Re: News & Announcements » Devuan 2024 financial report » 2025-08-05 16:28:44

Welcome to Devuan, Codalunga!

Devuan's fiscal sponsor is dyne.org so that would be a question for them to answer. I have sent an email on another matter so will ask them to also answer your question.

However . . . Devuan needs more than financial support. Please consider volunteering your technical talents to devuan development if you have the skills to do so.

A better question might be, why are you using anything Pulse Audio?

DONE!

Many species are tool makers. Sadly, the tools/solutions that humans create often prove to be more destructive than beneficial. We just keep bumbling along without much of a clue, following our whims (and profits) and more or less making it up as we go along. The fashions change. Tools change. Challenges change. But we never seem to learn that the solution is not OUT THERE or with the latest gizmo. The solution is internal for each and every one of us to discover.

#109 Re: Off-topic » A programmer should be a touch typist ? » 2025-07-27 14:01:12

Or . . . you could turn off the machine and wander through a forest and understand that the machine is about to create an unlivable environment for our species.

@stargate-sg1-cheyenne-mtn . . . I found https://www.vhemt.org/ many years ago . . . possibly even before Devuan existed!  I know I posted a link to that site somewhere on this forum but alas, atm my search fu sucks. The VHEMT message was not new to me. I had figured that out in the 70s and did not contribute the exploding population. We are definitely the most destructive species on the planet.

#112 Re: Off-topic » A programmer should be a touch typist ? » 2025-07-26 22:27:27

@chomwitt . . . Sentient beings are driven mostly by desire and anger and sunk in delusion with only an occasional dollop of generosity or kindness or clarity coming to the surface. Look around the world. There are still caste systems and slavery and wars and oppression alive and well. Now not pharaohs but corporate-driven states and power-hungry madmen. "Technical progress" as the solution is not only a deluded fantasy but dangerous when those in charge are incompetent. It has ever been thus. We keep moving laterally, entranced by new toys thinking that will "fix" things yet we always end up with a rerun that's been played out since the Neanderthals walked the earth. Until WE evolve we'll keep endlessly playing out the same dynamic.

#113 Re: Off-topic » A programmer should be a touch typist ? » 2025-07-26 17:32:27

Machines work for free. Humans are becoming obsolete except for replication which has long since overpopulated the planet. Humans think they are smart. Yet our fascination with shiny new toys has gotten us to where we are and we have learned absolutely nothing. Humans better get a clue or extinction will take care of us. The final solution . . . finally

#114 Re: Off-topic » The Joke Thread » 2025-07-26 00:26:13

Well . . . you do not surprise (or entertain) me. Whatever the "bait" was escapes me. Zzzzzzzzzz . . .

#115 Re: Off-topic » The Joke Thread » 2025-07-25 22:40:39

Well . . . look what the cat dragged in! big_smile

We give a lot of leeway to those who use this forum to beat their favorite drum but contribute little to nothing to Devuan's existence. At some point, enough is enough. I doubt that many forums would have the patience that this thread has enjoyed for so many years.

All the best to you quickfur . . . wherever you land!

#116 Re: Other Issues » I seem to crash when I go to a certain website... » 2025-07-25 01:18:45

@tux_99 . . . I don't disagree with you assessment of the ethos of the "offensive" comment. But I also defend the validity of my assessment. Since you arrived I was hoping you might find a niche other than posting on the forum. Too many talkers and not enough doers will not stem the assault coming from Debian et all . . .

#117 Re: Other Issues » I seem to crash when I go to a certain website... » 2025-07-25 00:22:43

@tux_99 . . . You've been here for a little over a month and we are just getting to know you and you, us. Perhaps you might want to rethink the use of flippant, sarcastic comments towards individuals until you get to know more about Devuan's history and also those of us who have nurtured this distribution for over a decade. Just sayin' . . .

To put it another way . . .

There can be no offense when none is taken.

#125 Re: Forum Feedback » FluxBB » 2025-07-05 18:07:40

@ alphalpha . . . Yes, FluxBB is a good fit for Devuan. The software was old even when it was first installed. I have no idea if there have been any "official" updates since then but there have been some custom modifications. Here's the story of how we got to FluxBB . . .

Devuan's first forum was Discourse. It was not very well received by Devuan users. So I created and self-hosted Dev1Galaxy as the "The Officially Unofficial Devuan Forum!" alternative. Two or so years later, Discourse was mothballed and Dev1Galaxy became the "Officially Official Devuan Forum!".

As long as it works, why would there be any reason to change it? SNS is not exactly Devuan's style . . . wink
