What is your graphics hardware and driver(s)?
lspci -knn | grep -iA3 'vga\|3d\|display'If you have an Intel card then remove the xserver-xorg-video-intel package.
Thanks for the tip, maybe I'll get further that way. I have no plan at the moment.

I was already considering whether upgrading to Daedalus might help on this new machine. Maybe also because of the 6* kernel.
xserver-xorg-video-intel is apparently installed. Can I just uninstall that?
Maybe someone has a tip for me: my new computer (chimaera) wakes up again after suspend to ram, but the screen does not come back on.
... - my most used computer.
Thank you for the information. Then maybe I'm on the right track.
a standard desktop?
Yes.
... and with a processor like that even GNOME is as snappy as a pool full of alligators
Thank you, I can use that as a guide.
I am using LXQt, but maybe one day it will overtake me and I will want to go to Gnome.
I will then look for a computer with Fifth generation Ryzen 5850U. Maybe I will find something.
By the way, do you guys find these fanless machines o.k.? For example something like this?:
https://www.shuttle.eu/de/products/slim/ds10u
... Take a look at the resellers of company pre used computers on Ebay.
Yes, that would also be a possibility. I had a Lenovo ThinkCentre from my employer. I had Devuan on it and I worked with it until my retirement for many years longer than my colleagues who got the same devices at the same time but left Windows on it. I was lucky that my boss said that I can install whatever I want on it, the main thing is that I work.
... hot swappable SATA drive bay ...
That sounds good to me. I'll put it on my list. I suspect, however, that we will be expensive ...
... Extra storage can always come in external USB drives - what other expansion were you thinking about(?).
Yes, in the main it will come down to an external USB drive. In the longer term, I'm also thinking about a storage connected to our Fritzbox (but that's not a problem).
By the way, I already ordered a computer with an AMD Ryzen 7-5700G (an extremely cheap offer), but there were problems (suspicion of fraud) and my bank did not make the transfer because of that. For the price I have nowhere else found a computer with this Ryzen.
Of course I want to spend as little as possible.
Only with the processor I have problems. I do not need the fastest, it should consume little power, but it should also be future-proof, I always use my devices 10 years or more.
What I also found are the fanless PCs. I already like them, but I'm wondering if there might be heat problems.
But I also like large cases. You can reach into it, change or expand something.
In any case, the device should be windows-free.
I would prefer to build a computer myself. But as I said I am absolutely not the Hadwarespezialist.
Good morning everyone,
maybe someone can give me a tip:
I don't know about hardware because I have to buy some so rarely (once every 10 years) but now I need an additional PC. Now I am unsure what to buy, a computer with AMD or Intel system, how many cores/threads etc. ...
I need the computer for internet, office, HTML and but also for image editing, especially RAW(NEF) files.
Hard drive size is secondary because can be swapped out.
Nice would be 2 disks, because I like to always run a disk in the computer for backup.
Plenty of expansion options are always good.
I am very happy working with Chimaera on a ThinkPad and would like to install Daedalus on the new additional device.
Maybe someone has a tip for me. I would be grateful for it.
Best regards
Ok, thanks everyone, then I'll install Devuan on this new machine with the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G and hope it all fits. So far I've only ever installed on relatively old Lenovo ThinkPads and desktops.
If Chimaera becomes Daedalus, yes probably linux-image-6.* comes with it.
On my ThinkPad I leave the 5.10 kernel at the moment.
Best regards
Did you add the backports repositories yourself? They seem to be correctly configured at any rate.
Yes, I have compiled the sources.list like this:

I have a laptop running a 5850U and I don't recall having any CPU problems with the stable kernel. The amd64-microcode package in stable is too old though and you will probably get better support with a newer kernel.
This sounds good " ... so the CPU itself might be fine with kernel 5.10."
I'll just have to try it out. If anyone has any recommendations for the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G and the kernels, I'd love to hear them.
... In my case I did update from 5.10 to 5.15 when I updated my processor and motherboard to ones that weren't fully covered by 5.10 (AMD 5600G and a new sensors chip on my B550 motherboard) ...
Yes, that is also my concern. I'm getting a computer with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700G and I'm worried about an optimal installation.

origin deb.devuan.orgOn my ThinkPad I leave the stable kernel. However, I'm getting another machine with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700G.
Hello to each other,
I have a question:
I have installed the meta package linux-image-amd64 and with it currently linux-image-5.10.0-19-amd64 on Chimaera. Now I see that linux-image-6.* is also installable. Is there anything to consider when I install that?
Best regards
I started a discussion with my question about Xfce at Christmas. The answers were very interesting for me. Thank you for that. I don't have anyone here to chat with about this and your views are important to me.
... and apparently that redirect pin-pointed http://debian.bio.lmu.de as redirection target. I.e., the Devuan mirror that was picked offered that redirect, and evidently there was some issue with access to 2001:4ca0:4300::1:22 (aka http://debian.bio.lmu.de) at that time.
Thank you for the information. Have a nice evening.

Word has it that Plasma's Wayland desktop is the new Xfce.
And in respect of a Wayland Openbox-a-like see https://github.com/johanmalm/labwc — the author is a BunsenLabs developer (the community-lead continuation of CrunchBang) so it might be covered on their forums.
Good, I installed plasma once again. But it is like before. e.g. when moving icons in the taskbar Plasma crashes regularly. You have to be pain resistant to work with it.
Labwc is a wlroots-based window-stacking compositor for wayland ... Never heard of it. There are always surprises.
... the strongest/more suitable option I see being Openbox ...
Actually, I was so interested in Xfce because Wayland is at least partially realized in Xfce 4.18. Wayland is supposed to be more secure than the X.org server. Gnome I do not want and Plasma I have never experienced without program crashes on my ThinkPad. On a USB stick I have heads with openbox. I like that a lot. But openbox will probably never come with wayland. Maybe Wayland is also a hype and the security is not that much better. Maybe I am running after a phantom. But the views I've read here about Xfce have made me install Lxqt now, which I've had good experiences with in the past.
... on the condition that this project does not "die".
Yes, ok. I chose Xfce because it is kind of default in Devuan. I didn't think it was the case that Xfce could have a foreseeable end.
Hi guys, when Xfce 4.18 is released, is there a possibility that it will come in Chimaera? Maybe via the backports?
