Choice is, on the other hand, the reason I moved away from Debian, and the reason I'm steadily moving away from binary distros in general. Primarily, that's the choice to not install 500lbs of crap I don't want or use.
And you have that choice installing with either the netinstall or the mini-iso. Even CD 1 of the 4 CD set should get you a very minimal install.
Anyway, this is horribly off-topic. Maybe if the OP replies someday...
Yeah . . . I may split it off a bit later . . .
@steve_v . . . Isn't choice the point of free software? The desktop-live installs a default Xfce desktop using the refractainstaller. Nothing more. Nothing less. All the descriptions on the website and elsewhere say exactly that so you shouldn't have expected it to do anything else.
The Refracta derivative is customized with different options that make it Refracta based on Devuan.

On that note... Any particular reason we're moving to that (unmentionable, IME) thing instead of using the venerable debian-installer? I mean, we kinda have a serviceable wheel already, no?
Refracta has been around for AGES. Here's one of the first posts brought up in a search from 2009-05-07 on FDN.
could always try http://refracta.org/ it truly is debian with a slimmer and lighter default install
Refracta has been the default live installer for Devuan since jessie.
Refracta snapshot and installer are invaluable tools for sooo many users. Have you ever actually tried it?
refracta.org has been up for a long time and many derivatives of various Linux distros use it. I use refractasnapshot to create a backup image in case things go south.
My current installation is based on the refracta version of chimaera (no install recommends and other nice defaults). Yeah, I'm a fan . . . ![]()
My old Intel Haswell needed an .asoundrc file to sort the 2 chips on the board. Maybe that's an option? Or more likely this is just noise and apologies for that . . .
@tux . . . Thanks for the edit. Do you have apulse installed? Needed when pulseaudio is removed. Not sure of the details.
Please use "code" tags. Legend is available above the edit window. ![]()
Default in Devuan has been not to merge but Debian may close the door to the freedom to choose.
The fix doesn't fix all of it unfortunately.
What happened with the new release of Xfce? The CSD? They added an option for CSD to be turned off in the settings menu.
More GTK3 more intractable CSD more skinny bars It's turning into a less usable and fuglier cluster**** . . . IMO of course . . .
KDE gives me the willies - can't put my finger on it, but again, I have tried to 'like' it, but it just doesn't mesh with me, or something. Just too much. Hard to articulate.
Over a decade ago I once installed KDE 3. When the first animated, bouncing icon popped up, I was so out of there. Even then it was bloated . . .
OMG I hope not. That time of year is depressing enough . . .
@amc252 . . . FYI this is how Devuan package mirrors are built.
Looks like that is a Debian package so you will need to report the bug to Debian directly.
@HoaS . . . Sorry for the OT but I have to ask . . .
Have you been to view Queen yet?
EDIT:
New user registration is disabled on this site.
I don't think that will help....
ATM the wiki needs savvy admin(s) to get it up and running. Only then will it be useful for contributors and users to register . . . ![]()
Did that get your attention? Good . . . ![]()
The wiki has been languishing in the doldrums for some time in a rather unusable state but it could become a reality if some Wiki Whisperers would step up to make it happen.
If anyone here has experience with Foswiki or other wikis, this is your moment to shine!
Once it is in a usable state, we will need a team of contributors to begin populating pages with content sourced from the forum, mailing lists, IRC, personal experience etc.
Devuan users . . . the ball is squarely in your court. Will Devuan have a wiki? It's up to YOU!
Discussion on #devuan-wiki, dev1galaxy.org and our mail lists.
Now . . . . just where are those Wiki Whisperers . . . ![]()
Come join the Devuan wiki team!
Peppermint is now a derivative of Devuan, like MIYO, Crowz, Star, etc.
@KsWoodsMan . . . I would be happy to add it to our Derivatives list, if you like. ![]()

Googled Chrome also works with ALSA. It's just Firefox developers who decided to relegate their browser back to the silent fim era.
I am running FF on chimaera without pulseaudio thanks to "apulse". That has been available on Devuan for years. I have NEVER used PA and ALWAYS had FF as one of my browsers.
Apologies to aitor for going OT . . .
This is something that I take for granted...as I'm sure many others do.
If someone will tell me to tell me how to keep up with the renewal date(s), I will gladly accept that responsibility in order to help the project.
I may be the creator of a Devuan respin, but I'm not ashamed to admit my lack of knowledge in certain areas. I'm always happy to learn something new.
Lay it on me baby!
Contact me here or by email.
Oh Miyo . . . you are one in a million!! Someone who understands the dynamics of what sustains "free software" and actually steps up to DO something!!! You will be contacted shortly. Promise . . .
I am not really qualified to answer this question but imagine it would require something like:
1. Locate all Devuan keys and expiration dates.
2. Set up auto notifications to developers well in advance of expiration dates.
3. Actually remember to do it (or learn how to do it yourself).

@Ogis1975: So what's your purpose with that kind of post?
Perhaps Ogis1975 is wanting to volunteer to take on the task of monitoring the expiration dates of all the Devuan certificates . . . ![]()
Tux FTW!! Adorable!!
@fsmithred . . . The OP didn't say whether the upgrade went directly from jessie to beowulf or whether it went through ascii (which I believe is recommended). Would that make a difference?
Can you share another link?
Thank you.
