@deepforest . . . this is a technical help forum not an opinion forum.  No one is interested in your whining when you shoot yourself in the foot.

#977 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » linux is ONE BIG TROUBLE » 2022-12-08 21:15:41

As sgage noted, you have plenty of other choices . Feel free to stop whining and move on . . .

#978 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » linux is ONE BIG TROUBLE » 2022-12-08 20:30:21

Any tool is only as useful as the user controlling it. I think you are pointing the finger in the wrong direction. Take responsibility!!!

@Devarch . . . Please continue formatting your post above with "code" tags as I have started. Thanks!

Why not just start from scratch with a fresh install?

#982 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » I am tired from Ceres glitches » 2022-12-03 20:56:22

Why are you beating yourself in the head with hammer by using an unstable release? If you want things to "just work", use the current stable release, Chimaera.

Ha! I almost missed this as I rarely look at this or the music thread because I do so little of either, I don't have much to say . . .

Humans think and rationalize too much. When you look through the wrong end of a telescope things get distorted so it's no surprise we are in the mess we are in . . . and have always been in. It is a mental disease that binds us to suffering. The solution is not "out there" in science or opinion but in looking inward to unravel the fantasy we create out of bare sensory experience.

Human stupidity knows no bounds and I guarantee there is little solution in talking these days.

There all cleaned up!

Where does one go to learn how to post things such as a log into a scroll-able window into the forum. Thank you.

Hi dp!

On the "Post a reply" page there is a line of BB code functions about an inch above the input box.

First one "u" is to underline.

Towards the end look for "code"

to enclose scrollable code

Hilight the text you want to tag and then click on the desired function and viola!

Personally I don't have any moral dilemmas when it comes to screwing Bethesda out of a couple of bucks for a 25 year old game they had nothing to do with making in the first place.

You missed the punch line that is the root of all such actions . . . the "wanting" is the problem. Everything that stems from that impulse is "tainted". With out that "wanting" no rationalizations are needed. smile

#988 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » cant extract ccd and nrg images » 2022-11-24 16:29:17

@deepforest . . . It's not about money. It's about principle. There is no excuse for theft, ever. The "wanting" is the problem that is the root of much suffering. Learn to let it go and be happy . . .

Devuan go wrong way?

The wrong way would be to tell the user what DE/WM they can or cannot use. We offer options and the user makes the choice.

Well, this venomous spew is a rude and depressing awakening to my long winter's nap. Free software should be for everyone,  everywhere to use and participate. So please pull your heads out of that dark place and join us in collaborative cooperation towards a possible future.

Perhaps you could add it to the init-system-helpers package via Devuan's git store if the Debian maintainer will not cooperate. I think that's where it should go . . .

Debian sid certainly freezes. There may be a few package updates but not many. At least in my recent experience.

this.
sid also "freezes". no updates coming in while testing freezes to become stable. exception might be some last RC updates, but even that, stop completely a few days prior to release.

I stand corrected by those who swim in those waters.  big_smile

Do not use Debian repos directly. All Debian packages including backports that won't break Devuan are pulled in by Amprolla to Devuan. You'll have to sort which branch is current . . . that magic is way beyond me.

You will also find https://pkginfo.devuan.org/cgi-bin/policy-query.html a useful tool to search for available packages and https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/bannedpackages.txt to know what shouldn't be installed on Devuan . . .
