#51 Installation » ASCII repositories » 2020-06-05 16:25:55

There are now a very limited amount of packages available from the repoes, haven't checked which ones are actually available though.

Are there something wrong with the ASCII repositories?
Do we have to change the URLs after ASCII was moved to old-stable?

Thanks,
Olav

Hei!

For some time now AmaroK and MariaDB have been incompatible, some solutions to this?

The amarok database reported the following errors:
GREPME MySQLe query failed! (2000) Error message file '/usr/share/kde4/apps/amarok/mysqle/errmsg.sys' had only 982 error messages, but it should contain at least 983 error messages.
Check that the above file is the right version for this program! on init
In most cases you will need to resolve these errors before Amarok will run properly.

This is from a fresh install, and it is similar on several other computers.

Thanks,
Olav

#55 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » What games do you play on Devuan?? » 2020-06-04 19:45:36

Hei!

I used to play a lot of games earlier, mainly strategy games as: Cossacks, HOMM 3, Settlers 3, Empire Earth and so on.
Hidden and Dangerous and Morrowind were also marvellous games, I enjoyed Morrowind far more than Skyrim.

These days (I hardly play anymore though) I mostly play Left4Dead, Alien Isolation and FIFA; recently bought Soma which I/we will start playing soon, Amnesia and Penumbra were super!

Hei all!

I experience some issues with sound running «appimages» apps; [mod] actually the only one I've tried is qTox.

I'm on KDE, not running PulseAudio, and multiple source audio is working very well; however, qTox, the «appimage» app, is a different story, it takes exclusive control over my sound-device.

Anyone with some experience concerning this?

Thanks,
Olav

I didn't read through all the posts and thus don't know if it's related, however, I've had the above (link) 'problem' over and over again when using the repository packed packages of the NVIDIA driver.

Might help,

#58 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » NVIDIA-driver issue - KDE desktop » 2019-11-22 22:00:22

It seems, so far, that the issue with dependencies (not met and, thus, suggestions to deinstall {almost} all of KDE) are resolved if I install the «nvidia-driver-bin», with recommended packages (some in - some out), before I proceed with the «nvidia-driver» installation.

Thank you, working on it now, it gave some more info.
I'll come back with more info later.

Very strange, but it has been a continuous issue on three computers now, and for a while really; if I try to use the repository NVIDIA compiled packages, say trying to install 'nvidia-driver' (meta package), I am forced tor deinstall all the KDE environment?

Any suggestions to this?

Olav

Hei Terence.

Nice to have a «KDE-relative» on this forum!
Sorry for not being present earlier!

Well done Jaromil!!

Lets just discuss everything!
Political filters (as well as religious ones), sorting out, is just stupid; among various aspects of this OS I do recognise Devuan in a global political context, and as such, the former statement follows logically!

Please, let us not be like so many other forums/plenums but just open up discussions concerning «everything 'relevant'»; the virtual part of our existence is increasingly playing an influential role in peoples lives, thus, discuss and argue, concrete or abstract, analyse and synthesise ...

Although this is primarily a distro forum I think it's not inappropriate to open up for a (even) wider discussion, not at least given the founding premises for its formation.

Olav

Wow, and "yes  jaromil, we now have a clear picture of where Dyne ( & you ) is coming from."
Reading what little is on the mailing list, it seemed less likely I'd interact with dyne - concerning
anything Devuan.

My next donation will not go thru dyne! We'll chat about that one day.  tongue

Strange with such a harsh reply to that post?

Be fair Giorgos, irritated you may be on HoaS but you shouldn't blame it on Devuan; in my view, this forum, as well as the distro, is quite well maintained.

Just a thought, but I would do a «memtest» to see if the RAM is alright also.

«libGL error: unable to load driver: i915_dri.so»
I had a quick search for one of those errors: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=522127

Hei!

Well, I think you are on the tracks of it; this has probably to do with the 64bit version alone.
Be sure to enable your system for 32bit compatibility.

#70 Re: Off-topic » Old Dell optiplex 780 sff died » 2019-03-06 15:22:25

Hei!

I've got four PCs running, six if you include the laptop and mobile-phone, and the eldest is from 1999 (running on SuSE 9.1); I've built most of them myself so I kind of swap and change parts not working all the time, however, the original CPU and RAM is still in use in the oldest computer smile
I'm kind of a nostalgic person, so running and keeping a stock of old computers and components, as well as old software, appeals to me.

The only thing I keep in mind watching, and upgrading, are the hard-drives; the PC I'm using now is from 2007 (MB, CPU, GPU, RAM etc), all  my correspondence, mail, logs, student-projects and so on are kept here; my production PCs are far better, but I don't care changing my day to day PC to one of those as long as the current set-up works well.

As stated above, this PC is from 2007 and has no problem playing and watching «common» music and videos at all; forcing it to work with resolutions greater than e.g. 4000x6000 px (videos), might be a different matter though; I don't know.

Cheers,
Olav

#71 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Devuan on SSD » 2019-03-02 17:19:23

Hei!

I don't know why you do not want a SWAP partition, however, SSDs works quite fine with Devuan; just remember to set it, the drive/partition, up with the parameter «discard».
To my knowledge, I would ignore any «discreet» variables if not specifically needed.

Olav

#74 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » MS Exchange Email + Calender for the KDE Desktop? » 2018-11-29 22:06:41

I'm not sure if I understand you fully, and my first reply may suggest I have misinterpreted what you meant; if you want to import data from MS Outlook 's components to Kontact's similar ones you may find it might or might not work, I have never done that so I do not know; but, if you want to change fully to another «suite» similar to MS Outlook , I think Kontact could work just fine.

You might look here for more details on KMail and Korganiser:
https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/pim/kor … index.html

#75 Hardware & System Configuration » KDE Plasma 5, no audio-devices available for recording. » 2018-11-26 15:43:14

Devuan 2.0
KDE Plasma 5

I struggle to get a list of available input ports shown in «KDE's systemsettings5» → «Phonon Audio and Video»; they are there, at least two (normal input from default audio-device and an USB webcam) but they aren't displayed.
Sound and video work otherwise just fine.

I do not use PulseAudio, however that has never been an issue earlier.

Thanks for any suggestions on this.

Cheers,
Olav
