The download of enlightenment seemed successful. is there a step i am missing?
Yes either installing a display manager where it will be listing as session option or starting it manually from its start file like is done without one. The /usr/bin/enlightenment_start

Did not stop you from spreading the trash you did though did it, so tell your lie about not spreading the hate elsewhere. Now you try to deny it when being called out for it I am not buying it or the not wanting to derail disscussion BS either, you were perfectly happy to do it with your FUD spreading.
So what is the problem with just putting it in a bin directory in your home? That is what I do with all of these things then create the .desktop file pointing to it.

Now this works for me in KDE if the desktop you use does not respect the XDG specification for these things I have no clue how to do it so it works.
but mud sticks.
Especially when the trolls continue to spread the FUD show me one company out there who does not do it. The devs say this relationship is over, as you admit, but the FUD spreaders continue like they always do in their never ending quest to keep the hate going.
You may want to check that the waterfox* files are executable the latest download of them did not have the executable set for me causing my .desktop file I made to fail when trying to start it. The -bin I did not use still does not have it set as I only put it on the waterfox itself.

At least from what I have seen lately.
Yeah nothing like someone getting fed up making you look bad by doing some actual work for a change on a project to get people off their ass and doing some work on the mostly abandoned project except for security fixes being applied. There were many many patches the X people left laying around to rot until the fork happened and started to apply them that got those X people off their asses to do something..
Had typo in my file now corrected it offers to upgrade the packages already installed on the test machine.

Continue? [Y/n] yOh even has a change log file going back several releases, so possibility this person will continue to do it.
Got around to giving it try on spare machine it works well enough. But looks like another dead project like so many of these repos are, the version in it is from September of last year xserver-xlibre-legacy (2:25.0.0.12-1). The current version is at 25.1.1 too bad perhaps someone will decide they want to make some current packages of it.
As always, it is setup that takes the time, but I'm almost there. Installing GBs of Thunderbird's profile will be the final act, and I'll go.
Still at least one update short of being done with the system files, 13.3 is now released so at least the basefiles package should be upgradable to show that for the version number.

WTF is happening?
Not that it going to do you much good but just tested it here as I had never seen that before and I know why, it does not happen on my install. I am using the KDE in Excalibur for my desktop.
BUT, why is it not even in experimental? That's the real question.
Two reasons I can see maintainer very busy the package is low priority or just to damn lazy to do anything about it. As you would know being long time user maintainers have their own little fiefdom over their packages with other developers hesitant to step in and do anything about it. If you feel this strongly about it file bug asking for newer version and see if anyone gets off their ass to do something about it.
but being 2 years out of date and have no update even in experimental doesn't seem right.
You must be new to a Debian based system, that IS the main complaint always given by people critical of the way they do things. Oh and two years out of date is nothing really for them they will gladly ship software that is sometimes a decade out of date.
tail -10000 /home/$(whoami)/.xsession-errors > /home/$(whoami)/.xsession-errors
somehow zeroes the file... well, anyway it's another topic
Of course it does a single > redirect tells the system to overwrite the file creating new version I would think the -10000 tells tail to go back so far it has nothing to put into the file it creates so it is empty. If you wanted the file contents to remain then the >> append to the file should be used then its contents will remain and whatever the command is doing will be added to the file.
In addition to the HP piece of garbage implementation of the EFI specification the default location and file that all others look for when booting is /boot/efi/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI for a 64bit boot or a 32 named file for 32 bit boot. That file is a copy of the linux or windows .efi file used to boot with in their respective directories in the EFI directory in the EFI partition on the disk.
enter it blindly in HP UEFI interface in Customized Boot using backslashes, not forward slashes
Of course you have to it is a fat32 file system it does not use forward slashes for a directory seperator.
No problems of any kind then nor ever since. What on earth are you talking about? AMD v's intel is a non-starter here,
Especially since the instruction set contained in both chips are virtually identical due to the cross licensing agreements they both have with each other for that technology. And have had since the beginning of AMD as required by the Department of Defense in the US for Intel to get the contracts to sell to them, they required backup source of supply for their chips they were buying.
Apart from "aptitutde update & upgrade" I just stuck with the defaults in /etc/apt/sources.list that the installation of Excalibur came with, assuming it would provide stable packages for this new installation.
Well you may want to add a line for it in the sources.list as those are packages that you will eventually be getting when the next point upgrade happens.
Could be if it has been changed.
But that's the first time I have ever experienced this as this does not happen with my Chimaera installation on my working machine nor have I ever seen this on Debian installations that I've had in the past.
It could just be my overly cautious nature when doing things like that making me think it was what it did. But unless the desktop has frozen on one of those extremely rare occasions I always log out before trying to get to the virtual console. So that may well be the case with me thinking incorrectly it did log you out as I said when writing it not sure.
That would be...
6.12.57+deb13-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.12.57-1 (2025-11-05) x86_64 GNU/Linux
The most recent kernel for Excalibur that was being installed when I set up the system a few days ago.
Well if you do not count being missing the proposed-updates repository which gives newer kernel then you are correct. For your other query on the login screen. I had thought that was the default behaviour it logging you out when switching to the virtual consoles but am not totally certain as I always logout before switching to one, that is my default behaviour

Lol. Sounds like somebody fat-fingered that middle-click once too often and exploded into geek fury.
Nah just the Gnome trolls anti-user philosophy rearing its ugly head once more. Do not know if I count the number of times I have seen it from them clowns in the twenty-six plus soon to be twenty-seven years of using GNU/Linux. Seems they have roped in the Firefox anti-user crowd for this one too, they have been getting fairly good with competing with them for top honors the last few years..
Not strictly correct. HP actually designed the Itanium and the main target was actually HP-UX and the wider server market.
Yes I left out the server users phrase in that line. The wackypedia article on the joint HP/Intel effort makes for fascinating reading for those who did not live it like I did...
Search the web for a more detailed history. amd64 was designed to run 32 bit and 64 bit code, Itanium was pure 64 bit.
And it was incompatible with the existing instruction set the x86 all these computers use, AMD's implementation was an addition of the 64bit computing to the existing instruction set. This is why it got named amd64 because they did it when Intel was out to abandon it users and force them onto the new processors that used the ia64 for the now known as Itanic chip for its colossal failure in the market. This is why you see the x86_64 when looking at the output of the uname command the x86 arch with 64 bit extensions.
zeus@9600k:~$ uname -a
Linux 9600k 6.12.63+deb13-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.12.63-1 (2025-12-30) x86_64 GNU/LinuxEdit: To answer the OPs question since it says 64bit for the Windows 11 and higher than 6.8 Linus kernel on that product page. The amd64 version is exactly what you need to take full advantage of the processor if the 6.12 kernel is new enough to support a processor released in the first quarter of last year them saying 6.8 seems to support that idea. Though if not you many need the backports or newer kernel to use it. Easy enough though just make an install on supported machine on usb key then install newer kernel boot it on the new machine and clone the install to the new machines internal drive
You are welcome good to read you got it solved.
update-grub has been executed but it has not picked up the new system present in the cloned HDD.
BIOS have not used one of them systems in good decade now, I think a grub-install --recheck /dev/sd? might be in order. Ah and the OS-prober is probably not enabled as well, check in /etc/default/grub, that would prevent the update-grub from checking for other OSs to add to the list now I think of that one.
root@9600k:~# cat /etc/default/grub |grep -i probe
#GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=falseYou are welcome and now I am seeing the GRUB mentioned again in the grub.cfg in the EFI partition debian directory and in the new changed drive /boot/grub/grub.cfg you need to change to the new UUID o it will boot the old drives configuration. The EFI is really easy only one instance to change in that file the boot at least a dozen or more, what I use in a script for keeping it all straight when cloning to my various machines and drives is this.
sed -i "s/OLD_UUID/NEW_CHANGED_UUID/g" /path/to/new/changed/boot/grub/grub.cfg There are no tested Trixie images for the 1b so I had to start with Bookworm -- which worked fine for migrating to Daedalus, but my Pi wouldn't boot (blank screen, no blinking of the activity LED on the Pi) after upgrading to Excalibur.
Not much of clue on this one never used a 1b only my 4b for my install. Only thing I can think of is no proper firmware installed in the upgrading. You can stick with that posted few weeks ago upgrade as long as you are comfortable with never upgrading the kernel as it failed every time I tried to do it with those images or the Daedalus conversion which should just upgrade fine on that branch. Which is why I went with the install Debian then convert to Devuan.
But what about those PTUUID and PARTUUID numbers?
They don't change in a source HDD / clone HDD scenario?
As I said in my previous posting they are never used by you when booting so the system has nothing to be confused by if they remain the same. Only the UUID is checked by the system when the UUID= is used in the fstab.
From what I understand (?) the cloned drive needs a new set of UUIDs so that it is seen by the system as a different drive.
Not too sure but I expect that it would be like this:
You understand some of it correctly, the UUID needs to be changed the partition UUID does not matter it is never used. The whole drive UUID does not need to changed again it is never used and I notice you use a swap UUID so you would need to format and change its UUID in the fstab on the drive you are doing all the changes on or the system will see identical UUIDs and get confused..
