Thanks fsmithred for mentioning sysv-rc-conf. I recently learned of rcconf but now have another (more useful for me) choice.
Now I have to learn about run levels...
Hello Pedro, I,m Frank (catprints) from USA. Well aged retired guy. Loving Devuan/ascii with i3-wm.
Nice job. BSD makes me crazy. hmmm...maybe....one more little experiment.
Enjoyed all your scrots. Bsd land is close enough for visits. Be well.
Perhaps, run alsamixer F6 to select soundcard?
As a Devuan "user" I appreciate as many installation options as the devs are willing to offer. They do the work and so far many have benefited.
The choices made up to this point have been carefully considered and hopefully will remain so.
Edited to clarify "installation options" as cd,dvd, netinstall, live install and so forth.
@ Ogis1975, thank you for the links to configs above. The .Xresources file under the i3 section has allowed me to change my xterm font size with ease.
Appreciated. Nice screenshots above also.
From playing with openbox+pytyle1 and i3-wm, both have their merits depending to the user's preferences and workflow:
- i3-wm: mainly tiling and occasional floating
I bounce between tabbed and tiling frequently. Floating only for a couple of packages.I agree 100% on your view of user's preferences and workflow.
I should mention that adding suckless-tools and i3status are important parts of my i3 install.
It surprises me that I don't hear more people mention how well i3-wm works. It has tiling,tabbed(suckless-tools),floating.It has wonderful documentation and configuration is possible with even my limited ability. https://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html
I use it with pcmanfm on ascii.
Thank you Nili.
Just trying to get the hang of this screenshot stuff. Again ascii/i3/pcmanfm .
I really like i3.
@ miyo This thread is nearly a year old. It took that long to check out various window manager/file manager/ascii combinations and end up back where I started. i3/pcmanfm/ascii-nice combo. I was put off by i3 complexity and keyboard shortcuts when I first looked at it but it is really growing on me. I only use my miyo disk to look through the files and help me with my own desktop built from the jessie minimal install. But I am grateful to have a reference and an interesting reference at that. Seriously-it helps. Belated Thank you!
I have not experienced this behavior on my mate/ascii/slim install. Other then suggesting slim I have nothing.
Are you using marco as window manager? I use marco but do not have mate-tweak installed which allows some other choices with window control I have no experience with.
Compared my list to yours and I have backslash after /merged.
/merged/ ascii main
Removed backslash and it still seems to update... nevermind.
@rolfie, I run ascii/mate with slim. I originally preferred lightdm but had some (unremembered) issue and made an unwanted
switch to slim. Slim has grown on me and I find it dependable even during experimentation it has been a solid performer.
The point is, I detested slim and now I prefer it. Just my experience.
I find that removing pulseaudio usually fixes my sound issues. Just my experience. If you need it-different story.
Thanks for the post. Your solution solved the sound issue I was having on dwm(window manager)/devuan install (no desktop chosen)and quodlibet.
Devuan inspires experimentation.
Great work! Inadequate words to express truly fine efforts. Devuan Devs, Thank you.
@ miyo lol lol lol
Mate startup applications is in menu system-prefererences-personal-startup applications.
Also I have mate-system-monitor in ascii. I wonder if mate-system-tools is in different package. mate-utils?
I'm unfamiliar with their use. also, I don't know what menu is used in Miyo-ASCII(mate) so, for what it is worth.
@mlsmith, (Mister Style)When you got it-you got it.
@ miyo ,I suppose that's Mark Zuckerberg modeling the teeshirt. lol
fun stuff.
Great work and many heartfelt thanks!
