I tried also XLibre with OpenBox. And I found after installation a weird mouse cursor. Then I found that it was reported as bug. I think is still a young project. Probably is nice to run, but not on a main machine. I am running Wayland with labwc and I kind of like it. Despite some or other says, Wayland shows some improvements compared with X11. Is still have some limitations, that's true also.

As I see xlibre has its own driver for AMD Radeon GPUs:
https://github.com/X11Libre/xf86-video-amdgpu

Xlibre driver for AMD Radeon GPUs using the amdgpu kernel driver

I also have an AMD GPU and I don't have such a file. I am running wayland, but I think it doesn't matter.

In my opinion the question it self makes sense. A good example is the Void Linux documentation. Technically is just a simple site, pure HTML, no JS generated from an mdBook. As content has one goal for the users: how to make their system work. Is not Debian, Arch or OpenSUSE wiki. If the users needs details then they have to look for other sources depending or their needs and choices. Is small, comprehensive, it says what you have to do, not exactly how to do. Anyone who touched Void Linux appreciate their small wiki and is a very good reference for the system it self. And I think is the same for years, only some small updates time to time. And it attracts users. It's just a model, but I think it's a viable one that might be followed one day. That's just my humble opinion, though.

To maintain accuracy of your system's clock you can use "chrony". It will enable also a dedicated service.

If you run only Devuan is enough to install the "chrony" package.

If you are dual-boot with Windows it's recommended to have both system set to UTC time. Windows does not use UTC by default, and if you are dual-booting, this will conflict with Devuan.  That's why the installer will see that you have Windows installed and will set the time as Windows to local time.
To  make the system time to UTC in Windows just download and run the registry file that RedGreen925 suggested.
In Devuan do this:

Check if the system time is set to UTC or not:
$ cat /etc/adjtime

Marks the hardware clock standard as UTC in Devuan and verify
$ sudo hwclock --systohc --utc
$ cat /etc/adjtime

Force chrony to  re-sync:
sudo chronyc makestep

The iso provided works. Back on Devuan smile.
Thank you !

Hello,

I wanted to switch my daily driver from a minipc (Lenovo) to a standard desktop with these specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 8400F 6-Core Processor

  • GPU: Sapphire Lexa PRO [Radeon RX 550]

  • MB: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE

I created the USB stick with Balena Etcher and booted. I selected Devuan stick boot from the boot menu and then the PC froze having the Gigabyte logo screen.
I tried then to create the USB stick with the dd tool, same thing.

I tested Freia and it booted, the installer started, all fine. I know that I tested the Excalibur installation on the same PC  a month or so, ago. It was a different iso back then. And it worked.

I tested the Excalibur boot on the Lenovo minipc and it worked, but on my Gigabyte desktop it just doesn't boot.
I have installed Debian 13 Trixie, for the moment, dual booting with Windows 11 LTSC. I hope to have a solution to get back to Devuan smile.

The new image works now! Just did a minimal server install inside a VM and is fine. Thanks!

I succeeded installing  stable version and then switched to Freia.

I have seen that the ISO is now available. I tested the Freia installer on junk laptop ( junk because it has some issues from factory, but mainly functional). Indeed Partition Disks is failing also on real hardware. Now I see why the ISO image was missing.

I still have one question: on the Testing(now Freia) should I run time to time: apt full-upgrade?

Thank you all for your answers!

First, Thank you for your reply!

Yes, I know that is not officially released. In this location:
https://mirror.leaseweb.com/devuan/devu … aller-iso/

was the testing Freia ISO. And now is empty. It was an ISO last week. I am on Devuan for about a month, I don't really know how things  should be.

I wanted to download the ISO for Freia and install it in a VM. The folder is empty. I am curious why is  the ISO is not available for download.

Never heard about Forgejo. Seems an interesting choice. Gitea served me very well for some time. I plan to switch my mini-server to Devuan. I only store important files there and I setup a small Gitea server. Now I have Debian on it. I like Devuan because is more transparent not having systemd and I don't have the problems I had in systemd: hanging shutdowns especially.
Forgejo seems like a fallback in case gitea change their licensing or some big company buys them.

I don't know about running KDE in a non-systemd distro. I wouldn't do.

I run Void in the last year and I tested major Desktop Environments: Gnome,KDE, XFCE, Cinnamon.  As I remember KDE has some systemd-dependencies, some KDE module were unusable in Void. There are rumors that more systemd dependencies will be added in KDE. And each update on KDE packages can bring problems, for a rolling release such as Void is not really a good option. That's a bit annoying for the end user.

If I would run KDE, I would choose OpenSUSE or Fedora. OpenSUSE is a better choice than Fedora, Fedora is unstable, is just the testing bed for RHEL. I would not use it. But in OpenSUSE, KDE was the default choice for a long time, many vets of OpenSUSE run KDE. And of course KUbuntu. I don't know about the other 'n variants, I don't think they really matter.

XFCE and Cinnamon are the wisest choices in my opinion. They work everywhere. If you want Wayland than labwc is an excellent choice . It just works in Devuan smile.

I have following your steps and tested a Gitea installation on Devuan 6.1 - Excalibur and it works, including the service file. I used SQLite as a storage.
Thanks for sharing this!
