@bilhook pocket is garbage much like encrypted media extensions the DRM that pulls in widevine google codec only its actually worse cause there is zero reason for it to be enabled.

#277 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [SOLVED] Anyone know how to get doas working properly on devuan? » 2024-09-12 00:37:30

Was solved, but now I can't remember how to do this again. Weird shit I will say...

#278 Re: Off-topic » The Joke Thread » 2024-09-10 01:13:54

@golinux I have also gotten bored of this thread too. Did like, 10+ pages ago. I mostly just look to see if anyone like yourself is getting bored. I find this entertaining dont ask why.

#279 Re: Off-topic » Something I realized, » 2024-09-07 01:14:40

@JWM_KIT sadly, I have had to realize much of what has been said below your comment.

So much hardware needs blobs.

I look forward though to ditching the UEFI bios that framework laptops have once they supported coreboot though. big_smile

But yeah, if you into gaming, the best way in my opinion to proceed is to keep only what you need on the gaming computer.

Files you want kept hidden, including ideas your working on that you could make money on, etc...

KEEP OFF the gaming computer!

Because UEFI is... sketchy.

Whether AMD's PSP is as bad as intel me, idk.

This being said, there is someone who decompiled PSP on github. of AMD and they seem to say it has no network stack.

I dunno if this is a good enough reason to use it or not, but it gives me some hope for future.

@alexkemp

Btw, didn't know utf-16 was only used by windows, or that utf-8 is used by 98%+ of the web. Interesting stuff

@Blackhole

Sometimes ignorance prevents us, or people I should say from seeing the truth.

I still recommend keeping any computer with blobs on it from having your more important files though.

#280 Re: Off-topic » Gratitude » 2024-09-05 04:35:07

I have gratitude for many things, if I think about it long enough

One my faith,
two my anger has diminished over the years
if there is a third, it is that I begin to see traps for what they are.

Such as social media, people go on there to be validated all too often and whether they are or not, there is a risk in both directions of losing your way.

1: You become arrogant from get validation too much (positive)
2: you fall into despair from being criticized too much (negative)

My faith has been showing me these things.

although it took me a while, for me to respond and/or take it seriously.

Those are some gratitudes I have discovered recently.

It turns out, that using blobs when you don't need to might have merit.

I will admit, I always wondered why people did this when they didn't have to.

For example AMD graphics doesn't need a blob apparently.

But if you do gaming, battle.net type stuff which I have been doing on a separate computer devoted to it.

Aka, that comp is specifically used for gaming.

I apologize if I was ignorant before.

I believe I have been humbled on this matter.

I got a framework laptop you see and it doesn't work well for gaming without the amd display driver blob for graphics.

#282 Re: Off-topic » Gratitude » 2024-08-25 06:27:11

Gratitude, tough to have, but priceless to have.

#283 Re: Off-topic » The Crappiness of Modern Laptops » 2024-08-25 06:26:38

@UnixMan1230 That's why I disable the touchpad and use trackpoint on the keyboard. It works like a charm and is my thing.

#284 Re: Installation » [SOLVED] how to install kernel 6.6.47 (or 6.10.6) in a new daedalus install » 2024-08-23 21:19:51

There is another way to get newer kernels:

https://www.fsfla.org/ikiwiki/selibre/l … sh.en.html

If you follow this guide, it will work.

BUT! If you need/want blobs, this method is useless to you.

I currently use it on my framework amd laptop. Now that the wifi card has been replaced it works completely fine.

Still, you get new kernels quite often.  LTS and the usual one as well.

#285 Re: Off-topic » The Crappiness of Modern Laptops » 2024-08-23 21:12:33

Btw, restricted boot is more accurate then secure boot for UEFI.

Also, the idea of having network stack underneath or OS is just plain stupid.

This is why people need to say  no to doing drugs.

Not including marijuana but stronger ones. wink

#286 Re: Off-topic » The Crappiness of Modern Laptops » 2024-08-22 02:11:29

Framework is addressing part of this. The constant waste and their hinges are repairable. Also MNT Reform is doing somrthing similar but with ARM64 so far.

#287 Re: Off-topic » Secure Boot? Yes, we've heard of it ... » 2024-08-22 02:05:03

Secure boot is bad, because there is a network stack underneath the operating system running like almost always*

*unless you disable parts of intel me and coreboot the system.

wink

Whose idea was it to put a network stack underneath the OS?

That only made problems for everyone, linux users included.

#288 Re: Off-topic » The Joke Thread » 2024-08-18 01:07:51

I am sure golinux loves all these groaners a lot. big_smile

#289 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [SOLVED] Anyone know how to get doas working properly on devuan? » 2024-08-18 01:06:40

I figured out that I forgot the nopass part for getting jwmkit to shutdown and reboot properly.

I forget where I looked it up, but yeah, it works now.

I will have to quote myself later.

This is solved tho.

#290 Re: Installation » [SOLVED] AMD Installation, » 2024-08-18 01:04:51

Seems I made a huge stupid mistake when I tried the first bunch of times to load it.

I didn't disable secure boot!

Guess what I did once I realized that? I think you know.

smile

Like a sample config?

And also, I wanted to make it so, doas poweroff would automatically cause my computer to shut off.

But with one caveat, I want doas poweroff to work without root to users that can use sudo. But only that command will require no password.

I recently got an AMD 13 inch framework laptop, but I am wondering, I tried installing daedalus, but its not paying attention to my boot usb drive.

It has a live usb, but for some reason, it is failing. Anyone had this problem with framework amd laptop?

Thanks in advance.

If so, can you tell me what I need to do , to get my framework computer working with devuan?

#293 Re: Freedom Hacks » Frustration with Mullvad » 2024-07-22 05:27:29

@Steve_v forget it then, I pmed you, because I realized I have been in a funk.

the FOSS community btw only Hyperbola really. Donated a bunch of money to them, mostly beyond that I have done nothing. So I apologize.

Stressed out lately.

#294 Re: Freedom Hacks » Frustration with Mullvad » 2024-07-21 06:28:42

No, you grow up, I don't like it when people try to deliberately provoke me.

And for this reason, I wonder now if I should do what headonastick did and go far away.

#295 Re: Freedom Hacks » Frustration with Mullvad » 2024-07-20 08:41:44

@soren you are the only one who showed any decency in this thread...

Yeah, I eventually realized that. but it still only gave me mullvad-vpn when I tried initially.

@steve_v again, its the librewolf approach that they don't do that annoys me. They could just make it so derivatives default to a debian release like bookworm . But they don't. That is fundamentally annoying.

If I could, I would delete this thread because the majority of you people are giving me a hard time over something very reasonable which is:

debian derivatives default to debian codenames. Is that unreasonable? if you say yes, something is wrong with you.r thought process.

#296 Re: Freedom Hacks » Frustration with Mullvad » 2024-07-20 08:37:45

@pl It seems you ignored what I wrote about how librewolf does it.

And you also ignored other replies where I said, mullvad browser didn't show up when I tried and only mullvad-vpn did.

Btw, its people like you who are unforgivably rash who get under my skin. I have no interest in your two cents. ZIP zilch...

#297 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Mouse no longer works after update » 2024-07-19 22:21:07

I am fine at the moment when I don't upgrade openrc to the last release. Very weird stuff.

I have no idea why that works for me.

#298 Re: Off-topic » AI Safety » 2024-07-19 22:19:54

@golinux nah its more I just was a bit pissed off. Not as much anymore. I just didn't think probably enough.

I replied to your last comment though.

#299 Re: Freedom Hacks » Frustration with Mullvad » 2024-07-19 22:18:33

@golinux he insulted me first... so yeah.

I got a little hot under the collar. I would prefer people not just assume the worst of me without understanding my thinking.

But that is... sometimes... impossible, I guess.

#300 Re: Off-topic » AI Safety » 2024-07-19 21:53:33

@pl that is not their prerogative if it destroys the environment for everyone and enables fascism to be more widespread.

Would you want all the new surveillance to be controlled by a fascist?

Imagine how tight Hitler's grip would have been if he had modern surveillance...

Let that sink in.
