First, I hope this is the proper board to post this. I did a quick internet search for this problem but came up empty. I just installed Xfburn and am trying to burn an .iso image, but I keep getting the error message below. I have no idea how to fix this.

I'm trying to add the ppa for inxi sudo add-apt-repository ppa:unit193/inxi but I keep getting this:

It worked on ascii; don't know why it's not working on 4.0.

The other issue is that when I open a sound app (Audacity, SMPlayer, start up sound) I'm getting an annoying POP sound. It just pops when you open the app. After that it's okay. Any ideas on this?

[I'm still having the screen tearing issue mentioned in my other post.]

So I deleted compton and kept picom. I created picom.conf and put it in the .config folder. This is what I put (and only this):

but I sill am experiencing terrible screen tearing. Should I enable or unenable hardware acceleration in the browser? Is there anything else to try?

Hardware acceleration was off, so I switched it on. Screen tearing is still bad.

Thanks HoaS, I got the .deb file installation working. But I'm still scratching my head over the other issue. I found the sample config file, but it is not matching the instructions I have. My instructions are to find the lines

Regarding what hevidevi wrote, is that the case? I still have picom installed. Should I delete one or the other? The whole reason for this is that I have big time screen tearing in my browser.

I just installed Devuan 4.0 over top of 2.1 and am having a few issues. The first issue is that when I click on .deb files to install apps, instead of installing they open with the archiver. I know these are .deb files that are supposed to install the app.

The second issue is I installed Compton because of screen tearing in the browser. The instructions I was given said after installing it to go to /home/**/.config and open compton.conf and edit some lines. The problem is this file doesn't exit. I double checked and made sure Compton is installed and was added to the list of start up apps, but no config file for it exists.

Well, I have the latest SMPlayer installed via a .deb file, which I don't think is the most current offered by the database, and yet Synaptic shows it as installed. (Version 21.1.0+2.1) This is on Devuan 2.1.

I updated inxi due to a thread in another forum. Here's how I did it: First, opened "/etc/inxi.conf" as administrator and change the line B_ALLOW_UPDATE=false -to- B_ALLOW_UPDATE=true. Save and close the file. Then ran sudo inxi -U in terminal to update inxi to latest version. Here's the problem, when I look in Synaptic, it says my current version is still 2.3.5-1, but when I run inxi --version in the terminal it comes up to the latest. See screenshot. Why is Synaptic still showing the old version?

I was wrong about Palemoon devs being any good it begins to seem...

Requiring people to respect their trademarks, and the open source license, which is what I think you mean, and is the latest problem, does not make them morons. If people don't respect the open source license, then what's the point? I think those who don't respect the open source license or their trademarks are the morons who are causing all the problems.

Also, the reddit shithole is run by rabid anti-palemoon folks, so you're not going to get the facts there. As a matter of fact, they have posted outright lies. If you go there and try to post facts, you get banned. It's already happened. And your links to the Pale Moon threads actually prove my point.

This is the same ignorant claim made against Pale Moon browser. As long as it's maintained with bug and security fixes, it's no more insecure than any other comparable app. (Unless there's something about TDE I don't know yet.)

I'm still surprised some people are crying like babies over this. How many times did Firefox "break" these legacy extensions in the past? Why do you think some of those extensions had so many updates? You can't expect frozen extensions to continue to work forever in an actively developed browser. What's so hard to understand about that? I mean, people seem more upset over this than Firefox totally abandoning this type of extension in favor of webextensions. It makes absolutely no sense to me. I also get the impression that a high majority of people bitchin' over this don't even use Pale Moon (they just have a weird hatred of it).

If you're talking about the recent dustup over extensions, well, you can't expect frozen extensions to continue to work forever in a developing browser. Are you using the OEM cable?
Does it have a ferrite filter?
Have you tried using another cable?

I've been "monitoring my monitor" since I last checked this thread. I don't think it's something nearby that's causing the problem. I guess the next thing to do is replace the cable if they're not too expensive (it's been a while since I had to buy one separately).

I put this in Off-topic because I'm not sure if it's a problem with Devuan (I suspect it's not).

I'm noticing a problem on my monitor. It seems to have started about a month or so ago. For lack of a better way of explaining it, there's like a wiggle, or jiggle, that starts at the bottom of the screen and travels all the way to the top, and then restarts again at the bottom. Does anyone have any ideas what it is, and how to get rid of it? Does it sound like a problem with the monitor itself (the monitor is less than a year old), or something in the computer / OS / graphics card? Below are my computer's specs:
