LOLOLOLOL!!!

Sometimes when you post, it reads like you're on crack, and I love it smile

Nice job with the memory usage btw.  I look forward to seeing the stats from your 64-bit build.

I noticed there was what looked like an openbox window border...is it also using openbox, or is that an awesomewm thing?

Keep it up.

@fsmithred: alright, I used a copy from another mirror and it worked fine.

If you boot into Spanish this way and run the installer, the installer will still be in English, but the live system and the installed system will be in Spanish.

The user said that he/she was able to run the installer in Italian.  Based on this comment, shouldn't that not be possible?

@keos: Can you document the steps you took to fix the issue?

Sup everyone,

I upgraded my devuan build host to ASCII today and wanted to document my experience for archaeologists who study our culture thousands of years from now.

-Upgrade took about 35 mins, give or take.  I'm excluding the time it took to run to the grocery store and back.  I don't use the default devuan desktop, only a simple dwm session, so I don't see a lot of the changes that other users might have.  I did notice that suckless-tools changed their default font sizes; dmenu is thicc.
-There were a surprising amount of packages to be autoremoved.  I think that was related to the next issue: that X wouldn't boot, which was weird, but it did after the second reboot, which was also weird.
-I used the dist-upgrade command out of Debian habits, and I wonder if this is the culprit of my woes, because it installed dbus and slim; shame on me for not reading through the 800+ upgraded packages.  Also in this episode: dbus and slim are now pinned to never download.
-It's using about 10-15mb more ram than jessie and I'm not really sure why.  This isn't an unreasonable amount, but it is noticeable.  Did anyone else experience this after they upgraded?
-Talks back.  The artificial intelligence that's built into ASCII's kernel makes some very sarcastic and inappropriate comments.  I had to mute my computer while company was over.

Other than that, it works just as fine as jessie, and I mean that as a compliment because I prefer stability.  Enjoy this screenshot.

o'k but which one for spanish because the one i downloaded before was not able to give me any option for a spanish instalation

If your complaint is about the installer, then I can't do anything about it, but you might want to reach out to the developers.

EDIT: I downloaded the amd64 iso from the link you provided and can confirm the behavior.  The second line of the boot menu, "Other languages," should solve your problem.  The default language is Italian, and you should see "locales=it_IT.UTF-8 layout=it".  Edit it: change it to "locales=es_ES.UTF-8 layout=es".  When I booted, however, it didn't change the language to Spanish.  Here's a screenshot for the devs because I have to leave: https://image.ibb.co/gF2GBT/Screenshot_ … _51_40.png

If something still goes wrong, and you're able to install the system, boot into it and then change the language settings.

Run the following commands as root (su or sudo)

export LANG=es_ES.UTF-8 && dpkg-reconfigure locales

When you get a list of languages, scroll down and find es.ES.UTF-8 UTF-8 or something similar.
Then, log-out and log back in (or reboot).  Things should adjust to Spanish.

These screenshots are from my custom spin, so it may look somewhat different on yours.  However, it is the commands that matter.

Can you post the url please.

I added the line locales=es_ES.UTF-8 and when restart there was not grub, black screen, i fixed it with partedmagic.

I forgot to said that at the beginning, after changed locales, ONLY the grub changed to spanish.

I probably should have asked if you're in a live environment.  In any case, rereading the last couple of links I sent should contain the answer.  I would particularly be interested in this section.

"LTS Arch snapshot versions + security/stability patches ported from Devuan"

Isn't that like calling Debian an OpenBSD derivative because it uses tools like ssh?

Also, it looks like they need to update their main page

Derived from Arch plus stability and security from Debian...

Interesting project though.  Looks like they have their own grsec kernel that was recently updated.  Hope they backported KPTI, too.

Yes.  Edit the first line and append that command to the end.

Can you share the URL where you downloaded the devuan image, tell us which release you're using (jessie, ascii, or beowulf), and if you're using a desktop environment (example, xfce)?

#158 Re: Installation » How to install Devuan system/language into spanish? [solved] » 2018-05-25 17:43:30

Did you try adding it?  After you hit tab you could type the locale command.  Maybe something like locales=es_ES.UTF-8 and see what happens.

I didn't see your email.  This network is acting flakey with my email client.  I'll check it and follow-up later.

#160 Re: Installation » How to install Devuan system/language into spanish? [solved] » 2018-05-25 17:22:40

You may want to edit the locale.  If you hit TAB at the bootloader, the option locales=xx_XX.UTF-8 keyboard-layouts=xx should be edited for your locale and possibly keyboard layout.

Not sure how well these will translate, but...

I'm sure that nonfree software will make it easier to pull off an exploit.  Intel's ME is an example of nonfree software built into the bios.  Also, this is the first time anyone has made that claim, so it might be helpful if that person were in this conversation or if a source were shared.

By the way, there's a thread about non-debian desktops at FDN.  A couple of users, nili in particular, have some nice screenshots based on devuan:

There is a discussion about this somewhere around here.  (Edit: here it is).  I borrowed some ideas from the conversation and implemented them in my own project if you need a fallback; it's just a few acpi configs.

Check running processes?  "3 hours" compared to which other system?

Posting the errors will be useful.

No problem, that was long overdue.  It does help to get a visual of a distro.

Unfortunately, it went by in quadruple speed!   If that was in real time, you must have some roadrunner genes!!!

I set the framerate to 20fps to conserve storage space, so I'm guessing that's the root of this evil wink

Btw, if anyone wants to leave a review on the Sf page, that would be awesome.  (Thanks, fig.)

crunkbong 0.7.11
Download here

As requested, here are some screenshots and two videos:
https://github.com/souperdoupe/crunkbon … creenshots

Changelog, 05/20/2018:
-Repackaged dwm-6.0 from source.  I just changed the theme for this round.  I figure it'll make it easier to patch and upgrade for future editions.
-Added pciutils and usbutils.  Seriously, I can't believe I forgot those.
-Added geany and leafpad.  See above.
-Changed the dwm ctrl+shift+enter keybinding to launch urxvt instead of xterm.  Thank god.
-Actually installed surf.  I've been trying to compile surf2 in jessie to no avail, so I think I'll just save it for the ASCII release.

@figdev: I would prefer discussing figos in a figos thread, and crunkbong in a crunkbong thread, just for clarity's sake.  (It will make it easier to remember where I read certain comments or ideas.)  Also, I'll email you no later than Wednesday about your query; this week is going to be busy af for me.  Feel free to shoot me one anytime.

#173 Re: Devuan Derivatives » crunkbong is looking for testers » 2018-05-20 02:50:31

Sup guys,

@golinux: I'll get some screens and desktop footage tomorrow.

@fig: Thanks for testing!  The default is an openbox session with tint2.  it boots to either openbox-session or dwm, and either can be defined in ~/.xinitrc. I thought I wrote that in the documentation.

The idea (also documented) is that most of the real features are console or terminal-oriented.  There is a reason the GUI is lackluster -- and optional.

#174 Re: Devuan » Install kali linux tools on devuan? » 2018-05-19 04:00:56

You'll need a list of the kali tools you want first.  If they're available, install them; if not, compile them.

Apparently, you can even install them on arm: https://github.com/Bhai4You/Kali-Linux.  What fun!

#175 Re: DIY » The hunt for a good browser 2017 edition » 2018-05-18 20:01:16

@figdev: philosophically, that is complete b.s. on Mozilla's part, and I completely agree with other derivatives' decision to enable unsigned add-ons.  Honestly, Mozilla is just getting more and more annoying.

Pragmatically, though, Firefox is a hacky browser, despite Mozilla's aggressive blobbing and unasked-for policies (like forced extension signing).  In the event that editing xpinstall.signatures.required results in no change, I'm not sure if a guide like this would be of benefit to anyone, but it seems like it might be worth a read.
