No apology needed.  The #devuan logs are an excellent resource.  It's always good to remind folks.

If you think that reinventing the wheel is a good use of your time, go for it.   We have more important things to do.  Devuan will fail or succeed on its own merits,  There is no need to 'win' over users who should be intelligent enough to find the many excellent analyses that are already available (and have been for years).

#3030 Re: Off-topic » Arguments against systemd » 2017-10-07 04:00:27

This thread serves no purpose except as troll bait (and it worked).  So can you please take a deep breath, leave the dramatic gestures and defensiveness aside and take it down a notch.  Thanks.

#3031 Re: Off-topic » Arguments against systemd » 2017-10-07 02:58:32

We do not have a "lack have of code of conduct".  We have an (almost) No Code of Conduct.  I personally don't see how anything good can come of rehashing this topic (which has been beaten to death for many years).  it is also a waste of bandwidth,  But let it continue for a while.  Hopefully it will grind to a halt with not even a whimper.

#3032 Re: Off-topic » Arguments against systemd » 2017-10-07 02:06:03

Good grief . . . 2641 words (including quotes).  You really have outdone yourself this time.  Perhaps this might a good time to lock it?

#3034 Re: Documentation » HOWTO: Post-Installation Configurations » 2017-10-06 20:46:01

Fair 'nuf.  A short stint with Ubuntu years ago cured me of the sudo disease.  But let's not sidetrack your howto with THAT discussion.

#3035 Re: Documentation » HOWTO: Post-Installation Configurations » 2017-10-06 19:43:46

Sudo? Really?  Ah now maybe I understand.  Perhaps you're used to Ubuntu's bad habits . . .

#3036 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » [SOLVED] wine32 in Devuan 1.0 Jessie 64 bit ? » 2017-10-06 15:08:45

That's a handy howto, Myio.  Hopefully I'll remember it when I finally get on ascii.

And an OT note . . . on your wiki page you say:

There is also an "unofficial" Devuan forum which may be used.

We've been 'official' for many months now.  wink

"WONTFIX" is not a thing on github, it is just something used colloquially to mean "a bug closed without any action being taken". All the "WONTFIX"es in systemd are just closed bugs and thus part of the graph you referenced.

It would be nice if we could get the facts straight so that it is harder to reject our claims as invalid.

Maybe I'm missing something - wouldn't be the first time -  but just because Lennart has decreed a bug as wontfix doesn't mean that the bug doesn't exist so it's in effect still an open bug.  Which means the number of existing bugs is probably much higher than the 'open' bugs indicates and the number of fixed 'closed' bugs much lower..

My favorite systemd analysis:
http://lkml.iu.edu//hypermail/linux/ker … 02496.html

And data from the systemd camp tells the story . . . If you scroll down this page you will see two graphs that say it all:
https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/

If all the "wontfix" issues were included in this graph the numbers would be MUCH higher:

#3039 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Refracta forum temporarily down » 2017-10-05 22:17:50

I have offered the VPS where d1g used to be if he wants to migrate the forum there in a more acceptable format.   But that might not be so easy to do now that tapatalk has mucked around with the DB.

#3040 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » [SOLVED] wine32 in Devuan 1.0 Jessie 64 bit ? » 2017-10-05 17:24:17

All compatible Debian packages are in the Devuan merged repos.  Do not use Debian pkgs directly.

Have you installed the multiarch packages?

#3042 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Refracta forum temporarily down » 2017-10-05 05:50:33

Forced migration of Free Forums to tapatalk.  Tapatalk is more geared to the facebook and mobile device crowd than Linux geeks.

I kept thinking about this project yesterday, and it struck me that the very detailed listings in that script would be perfect for a live-sdk "blend" file too, that may be something to look at.

I've never heard of a live-sdk blend file before, could you tell me more about it?

Simple Distro Kit (SDK) is a Devuan thing.  There's a lot of info on the devuan.org site.  wink

That's what got me confused, when people say experimental I'm thinking Ubuntu style of a tag you'd append in the repositories (which I tried and naturally it threw angry errors at me), as opposed to ASCII. I realise ASCII is where all the fun is at, however in trying it (updating sources.list and apt-get update) I was a bit confused as I couldn't see eudev or vdev, is there something I'm missing?

Maybe this will help?  https://devuan.org/os/etc/apt/sources.list

Or this? https://devuan.org/os/etc/apt/sources.list.d/

Tor doesn't work for registering either.  Have you seen Can't register because you are a 'spammer'?  If someone gets thwarted by the spam measures and really wants to be here, they can contact us to do it manually.  We've done it several times.  Personally I despise captchas.  But let's see what the backend admins think about your suggestions.

As to trolls . . . have you read our (almost) no code of conduct?

Your enthusiasm is commendable.  But your thoughts have been a bit much for me to process.  Mostly I tune out after about two paras . . .  wink

Thoughts about using smile.amazon.com to support charitable groups?  Any downside other than  'they' can track what you are supporting?

@sgage . . . Pretty much all of us lowly forum dwellers are in the dark

#3050 Re: Forum Feedback » Registration questions are questionable. » 2017-10-02 14:53:37

@JoshuaFlynn . . . There is no google recaptcha on this forum.  FWIW we also use the SFS db to filter out bots which has actually caused more trouble than the questions because of spam tainted IP blocks especially on VPNs.
