Devuan i3

I've used i3 in the past, and found it quite enjoyable. I installed it on an Ascii build recently, and I've been playing around with it again. Uses less resources than Openbox, but it's not for everyone...if you're unfamiliar with i3, it's a tiling window manager, and most things are controlled via the keyboard.

It's fun to use though, and once you get used to it, it's kind of addictive.

Might consider making a Miyo-i3 edition. wink

Re: Devuan i3

I think you need a co-developer to keep you in control a bit because you are beginning to sound like Dr Strangelove in that lab wink

Next thing we know you have a CGA only, 250x200 7bit ascii console running on 10MB ram and you will call it a minimalist desktop, you will put stickers of icons on that screen and take a photo smile

But then again I will be the first to download that 25Mbit iso and burn it on a 5.25" floppy and run on it on a 16bit PC-XT

Re: Devuan i3

I like i3, love to see a Miyo edition wink

I use the i3 screenlocker on all my machines, simple, light, fast, uncomplicated...just how I like my 'nix.

Re: Devuan i3

The prep for Miyo-i3 is coming along nicely.

Die-hard i3 lovers may possibly not like it...I don't know; people who would like to try i3 (but have been wary to do so) may like it...?

Pushing the boundaries is what I like to push...and I'm stinkin' pushin'. LOLOLOLOL!!!   tongue tongue tongue

Kind of similar to when I made Miyo...I wanted to make it a little easier for people to use Openbox. wink

Considering releasing Jessie and Ascii versions...

Re: Devuan i3

Thanks lunario! Looks great!

Looks like I'm almost there! Made 2 new wallpapers for 2018, so they'll be included in the release(s)...if the release(s) happen. I still haven't tried an actual build/.iso yet. This has been a lot of fun...I think. LOLOLOL!

By the way...if golinux reads this, feel free to move this if you'd like...not sure why I posted this here instead of the Derivatives forum. tongue  ...and I apologize for any extra work it may cause.

Re: Devuan i3

I'm writing this from a freshly installed Miyo-i3 32 bit alpha (Jessie version).  On this machine (a 64 bit), it's booting up at around 85 Mbs of RAM. yikes

Finding a few odds-and-ends to fix...

...I can't wait to unleash this beast! big_smile

Re: Devuan i3

Miyo-i3 32 bit Beta...lookin' "beta". smile

Adding Wicd to the system tray increased the Memory usage...grrr...

Don't wanna give away my secrets, but there's a clue as to why this isn't your daddy's i3 in the picture...and that's all I'm gonna say. LOL! big_smile

I think that all I have left is to write the Live User Notes and Release Notes...at least, that's all that I think I have left to do.  tongue

Re: Devuan i3

32 bit is finished. smile

Building the 64 bit.

I'll not post about it here any more. The next post will be in the Derivatives forum...when I have them uploaded to Sourceforge and ready for downloads.

Still not sure why I started this in this forum... tongue

Re: Devuan i3

Even if we dislike i3 we still like miyo and we like to know
Miyo can even make i3 user friendly
One may never know
That vu-doo-ish conky shortcut table is a must for all i3
Personally I got a headache studying the manual and never tried it.
May it is time!
