A discussion thread on reddit is stirring up the systemd argument again:
I suppose some of us have grown tired of this and just don't want to rehash things again. However, I have made what I believe is a useful meta-reply to that question, i.e. talking not about what's wrong with systemd, but about attitudes and process.
In case you're interested, this is my reply to the main question.
Elsewhere in the discussion, a user wrote:
I cant blame distro maintainers to not want to maintain support for multiple init systems for the tiniest of percentage of users to actually gonna use the alternative.
and I've written - albeit with less authority I'm afraid - a few words about that as well.
FYI. I was wondering whether I should quite my own comments here as well and couldn't decide whether that isn't too self-aggrandizing...

Basically, desktop users don't need what systemd is about, it is really something that admins find useful, (so I have read). ![]()
I don't want or need it, therefore choose to use distros which don't force its use.
(I started using Linux full time in 1999, when we were only just getting to have GUIs, & was still connecting to the internet via a modem over phone lines.) ![]()

Hello:
Merry Xmas. 8^)
A discussion thread on reddit ...
Having formed my opinion with respect to systemd many years ago (before settling on Devuan), the first thing that came to mind when I saw the title of this thread was that it should not be here but (if at all) in the [Index -> Discuss -> Off Topic] category.
More so if it is crossed linked to another thread on reddit with a title as bait-ty as the one linked.
Please don't take it personally: we have all been there at one time or another.
TL;DR
I doubt that anyone here at Dev1 hates systemd and like John Bercow*, most "couldn't give a flying flamingo" about it.
That said, I am certain that most everyone here knows all there is to know about systemd.
Which is why we run our boxes on Devuan Linux and belong to this forum.
As always, YMMV.
Best,
A.

this is probably the plain generic url:
https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions/comments/1psmdnd/why_systemd_is_so_hated/
and while you're there you can always have a general look about:
