[SOLVED] can't install firefox addons uBlock & NoScript

mike@DevuanPI4b:~> uname -a
Linux MikesDevuanPI 6.1.70 #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Jan  7 04:13:59 CET 2024 aarch64 GNU/Linux

FireFox 15.6 as installed from Devuan repositories, recently reinstalled after seeing another Devuan user saying he has a later version.

I've tried to install 'uBlock Origin' and NoScript but nothing happens after clicking 'Add' except a little dot in a box goes back and forth forever.
If I click 'Login' up in the right corner it says I must sign up to access the addons.

Have others found this or better yet a way around this road block?

Be well,
Mike

The way to install uBlock Origin is apt install webext-ublock-origin-firefox.

Since you can use uBlock Origin to disable and selectively enable scripts per domain, do you actually have a need for NoScript?

Re: [SOLVED] can't install firefox addons uBlock & NoScript

boughtonp,
I have to say 'Thank you, very much.'
I've used NoScript for years and just ran into uBlock in my Raspbian system. I really haven't really gotten acquainted with it yet.
Other things I have yet to find in Devuan are xclock, xload and PaleMoon, but I guess that's a bit off topic in this thread.

So thanks again for your help and be well.
Mike

Re: [SOLVED] can't install firefox addons uBlock & NoScript

Is there an advantage to installing uBO through the repository? I wasn't aware of this option, so I had just installed it through the regular add-on mechanism. None of my other extensions (such as Greasemonkey, Dark Reader, or Gesturefy) appear to be available in the repositories, so I'm wondering why uBO was singled out for this treatment.

It means you don't have to re-install it every time you create a new profile, it's there from the start.

It might mean it doesn't get disabled next time Mozilla "forgets" to renew a certificate.

It hasn't been singled out - there's a bunch of other webext packages too. Most - but not all - are mainated by the "Debian Mozilla Extension Maintainers". I don't know what criteria they might have.

Greasemonkey used to be in the repo, but not with the webext- prefix; it got removed when it stopped working. If that's changed maybe you could ask for it to be re-added.

Yes. As I explained here, using NoScript is useful even when one is using uBlock Origin.

Another one is called Luxxle.
