The module for my wireless card IWL4965 does not load consistently in Devuan Beowulf is there a fix???

does not load consistently
Could you support this with some log messages? Or describing the inconsistent behaviour?

Hi Pedro,
the behaviour this - the machine loads to desktop and no connections with wicd show. The firmware for iw4965 is not loading every boot. Have to reboot to get it to - then I can connect. Is there an answer to this problem??

Try grep iwlwifi /var/log/syslog and see if there are any error messages.
And please do the following for me. lsmod | wc -l and compare the numbers you get when the wireless does and does not connect after a reboot. Let me know if they are different. Thanks. You could also do lsmod |grep iwlwifi to see if the wireless module is loaded.

I think the card uses the legacy driver so
grep iwl4965 /proc/modules
And if it isn't loaded use
# modprobe iwl4965
If that fixes things then add the module name to /etc/modules (or to a file under /etc/modules-load.d/) to force load it every boot.

Maybe. I just did 'apt-cache search IWL4965' and it showed firmware-iwlwifi.
grep for just 'iwl' and they can all show up.
I'd like to rule out eudev as the source of the problem before anything else is changed. If so, there's a fix in beowulf-proposed-updates. https://bugs.devuan.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=483

Thanks guys I will try these ideas out. The problem is very random. Thanks all.

The problem is very random.
In my experience, random behaviour is very often caused by faulty hardware.

I believe Head_on_a_Stick and fsmithred might be on the track.
