think someone else might need to solve this error;

it happens also on fresh installation of devuan 6.0 mate (no podman installed, hence) (it took me around 1 hour to setup complete pulseaudio-free as suggested by yzou, including audacious and pulseaudio-free libpulse2-plugin)

so maybe it need adapt for devuan 6, ~~or is just incompatible with my present low-end system-dac.~~ since it seem error not present on devuan 5. maybe just did set wrong options.

one strange thing if might add:

arateconf reports always "unsupported" if i choose 24bit-3le or 24bit-le for Dac; but "supported" if choose 32bit; altough according to specs it supports only 24bit?

as for libjack not being the cause of the error;

however, audacious-plugins-devel (4.5.1) says it depends

however, libjack-jackd2-0 gets uninstalled when followed your routine to purge pulseaudio from libpulse2-plugins.

yes, i may have botched the linux install by evoking some commands during "boinc" install

like

sudo usermod --add-subuids 100000-165535 --add-subgids 100000-165535 boinc

but there is no de-installation routine offered (for podman); it functioned well on devuan 5.0, but now will try to uninstall.

maybe the error (so suitable mixer) because during audacious there were two "red flags" for jack; and i let the install go through nevertheless?

EDIT: Dependency jack found: NO. Found 0.126.0 but need |'>= 1.9.7'

netflix on raspi is bit bad idea, you can get a panasonic bluray player like 185 for around 90 euro it does the better job great audio and everything and gives you bluray, even dsd playback too.

have used in on kodi - coreelec -libreelec too, but it aint that great atm bit hassle to setup (not too much) and probably wont get a lot much better according to authors castagna

don't think this work with DAC > this one only 24b/192.000
another one accepts up to the same but output/upsample to 32b/384.000?

maybe internal HD Intel/AMD can play 32b .dsf? i doubt it;

will have to wait for a better soundbard, probably.

.aiff which is hardly supported /but all in one with metadate (can also burn CD of it for backup)
.wav (which has hardly matedate)
.wav + flac (which is better) but more space
.flac only (which is good, but not supported by itunes)(seem not supported by rhythmbox-daap as of november 2025)

for audacious, flac seem preferable.

can attest this method proven and effective for using alsa on several distro
"exclulsely"

1. purge pulseaduio + pipewire as per instruction
2. install apulse
3. install arateconf as per instruction, enable fftrate
4. >> configure arateconf,
eventuallzy reboot.

now the setup is not complete by any means (firefox can be compiled as suggested) and lacks some feature (like fallback mechanism if preferred audio card in arateconf is not turned on or available) but this can be amended by more advanced user or use of additional configuration or programs i suppose.

filecopy might well be regarded sort of achilles-heel of "modern"linux distro, ever so unreliable, for hte average user=?

anoter issue encountered:

the computer is fairly recent (1year old) > all nvme.
the NAS is fairly recent (2 year old) > HDD + 2 nvme for caching.

NAS is over 90/% full;

Devuan 6.0 (based on Trxie)
however, copy 500.000 file from Linux to NAS using SMB and file-copy via standard FileManager and the speed crawls to 1mb/s as opposed to around 100Mb/s (1GbE)(which i have) or 250 Mb/s (2.5GbE)(which NAS allows over 1 Eternet port);
still investigating; but wondered worth mentioning.

well, thanks, have since learned that this seem to be some sort of "failsafe"mechanism that i just haven't understood or "seen" yet.

actually, there is a way to "quicken up" the queue, one needs to click on the file-copy-window to "resume" the process, and the process gets worked through "concurrently".

who would have thought that;
and since the thing is greyish, must have not seen the arrows flying/standing by.

but have "apt-to-date" OS, and have now checked, with 4 GUI;

only KDE seem to copy without need of further need of user-interaction, whereas XFCE, Cinnamon, Mate, wait for another "click".

since rely on standard tools,
would say only KDE Dolphin has succeeded, but this may be open to debate.

but when afterwards try to re-install "wine", there is again bit mismatch.

have installed Devuan 6.0 on Main Computer

with 4 Desktop Choice

XFCE
MATE
Cinnamon
KDE

afterwards it asked if

SDDM
Slim

and selected SDDM.

Now however upon login, get no change to select other Desktop of choice *when press F1*

it starts automatically into Cinnamon.

What is correct procedure to change this?

Hello ,

would like to report anomaly,

since have problem with OS here upgraded to Devuan 6.0

~~now there are some issues during boot like~~

~~"i/o error on dev sr0, set 4, logical block phys seq 1 pvio class" or what not~~

~~that have not been able to fix so iam about to re-install Operating System;;~~

however, the file copy mechanism seem broken:

i am doing a backup of files; now backing up files to external HD (around 500.000 files in one folder).

at the same time, like to copy other folders onto NAS.

however, it keeps the other filecopy in queue, although the computer should be able to handle concurrent filecopy easily??

the filecopy to NAS would be over smb://
