Thanks for the help fsmithred. Possible last questions:
1) If I decided to dual boot with Exe GNU/Linux, how would I update it to Stretch?
2) And, how to add the correct repos for current updates?

I don't know that anyone has tried to upgrade exe-gnu jessie to ascii (stretch). Would probably be a good idea to do it in a VM first. Trinity does have several mail lists that might have an answer to your question in the archives.

On LightDM and xfce, I have used them together in Debian, and all things being equal, they should be fine together surely.
Do not assume equal compatibility in Devuan as our backends are different to accommodate eudev. Please read the Release Notes for clarification.

It would be a learning curve but well worth it imo. Forks should include source code and history from day 1. Sometimes that is not so easy to find. IRC might be the best place to get help on how to do that.

Wondering if/how we could get this added to the Devuan repos so I can apt install it rather than wget of a path that may change?
Maybe you'd consider forking it into git.devuan.org and building a package compatible with devuan/debian. Then it could go into devuan-proposed and eventually to the main repo.

Wrong. Slim is the default DM for Xfce and works perfectly. Did you have a problem with it?
2) deb.devuan.org is a little bit buggy. I would select pkgmaster if I were you.
pkgmaster is the source for the deb.devuan.org round-robin.
The issue with using deb.devuan.org on jessie has been fixed:

Yes. I also find it a bit awkward to do during the installation process.
The desktop-live ISO works out of the box and it is my favorite way of installing Devuan.

Quite a few users have gotten openrc running just fine. I am not one of them. Still mostly on jessie.

Thanks for the tips. I had a Larousse about 50 years ago but it's long gone. Was reading some of the French classics and went through a Baudelaire phase. Proust made no sense in any language. LOL!I Can still read fairly well but writing/speaking is another matter . . .

I am running XFCE, not impressed with v4.12 (hate the new look scroll bars) but dislike all the others more
You can get the "classic" scrollbar with the Clearlooks-Phenix-DarkPurpy theme.
To get the entire boot to desktop theme, install desktop-base.

You can also check out MX Linux which uses sysvinit as well: 4.15 kernel and full of non-free blobs (but it works).
MX Linux also has the ability to enable systemd so all the systemd dependencies have to be present. IMO those tentacles are unacceptable. antiX does a better job of it.

### Non-free firmware
All Devuan 2.0 ASCII install media make non-free firmware packages
available at install time. In the majority of the cases, these
packages are needed (and will be installed) only if your wifi adapter
requires them. It is possible to avoid the automatic installation and
loading of needed non-free firmware by choosing the "Expert install"
option in the installation menu.Devuan 2.0 ASCII desktop-live and minimal-live images come with
non-free firmware packages pre-installed. You have the option of
removing those non-free firmware packages from the desktop-live and
minimal-live after boot, using the "remove_firmware.sh" script
available under /root.

You should be using deb.devuan.org. Looks like one of the mirrors is failing. There is a list of mirrors here but without corresponding IP #. I'll report it to KatolaZ.
