#2351 Re: Intergalactic Communities » French Speaking Forum » 2018-09-21 15:08:28

Il y a eu quelques rapports de problèmes aujourd'hui. Nous vérifions.

Il y a de nombreuses années, j'ai réussi avec le français. Maintenant, j'ai besoin de l'aide de Google Translate!

Do we really need to bloat our backups with this?

You can get the "classic" scrollbar with the Clearlooks-Phenix-DarkPurpy theme.Clearlooks-Phenix-DarkPurpy theme

To get the entire boot to desktop theme, install desktop-base.

You can also check out MX Linux which uses sysvinit as well: 4.15 kernel and full of non-free blobs (but it works).

MX Linux also has the ability to enable systemd so all the systemd dependencies have to be present.  IMO those tentacles are unacceptable.  antiX does a better job of it.

From the ACSII release notes:

### Non-free firmware

All Devuan 2.0 ASCII install media make non-free firmware packages
available at install time. In the majority of the cases, these
packages are needed (and will be installed) only if your wifi adapter
requires them. It is possible to avoid the automatic installation and
loading of needed non-free firmware by choosing the "Expert install"
option in the installation menu.

Devuan 2.0 ASCII desktop-live and minimal-live images come with
non-free firmware packages pre-installed. You have the option of
removing those non-free firmware packages from the desktop-live and
minimal-live after boot, using the "remove_firmware.sh" script
available under /root.

@MiyoLinux . . . Thank you!   That is perfect for when the time comes.  Won't go there until there is no other option.

#2361 Re: Installation » Devuan repositories won't work [SOLVED] » 2018-09-12 16:17:37

You should be using deb.devuan.org.  Looks like one of the mirrors is failing.   There is a list of mirrors here but without corresponding IP #.  I'll report it to KatolaZ.

Congrats and welcome to Devuan and the forum!

It's not in ascii-backports. You have to use policykit-1 from ascii.

Add ascii main repo, update, then apt-get -t ascii install policykit-1 or if for some reason that doesn't work, specify the version: apt-get install policykit-1=0.105-18+devuan2.11

You'll probably have to do the same with the libpolkit packages if you're forcing a downgrade from the buster/beowulf version.

Yep.  https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=11680#p11680

#2365 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Software-properties-kde can't run. » 2018-09-10 16:41:18

gksu has been deprecated on beowulf iirc maybe KDEsu has also?  Has been discussed on DNG ml and elsewhere.

#2367 Re: Other Issues » polkit not available in Beowulf? » 2018-09-06 07:08:48

Did you look for newer packages in ascii backports?  There has been almost no work done on beowulf yet and as you discovered, it has some quirks.  You'll probably need to get the polkit package from ascii until we catch up.

We have had "heads" available for years!

Welcome to Devuan.  I predict that we will be hearing more and more stories like yours in the future.  Would you consider dropping a modified version of this over at Distrowatch?  Might inspire someone else to take the leap.

Your personal tirades might provide some always welcome amusement . . .  big_smile

#2370 Re: Installation » Login problem - no mouse or keyboard » 2018-09-03 21:12:24

I suspect that autoclean might not take eudev and our customized backend options into its equation.  Make sure you have the backend compatible with your DE installed.  And ALWAYS check what is going to be nuked BEFORE you hit enter.  wink

Read the release notes.

#2371 Re: Installation » [Solved] Permisison issue with winecfg » 2018-09-02 16:47:20

I stopped using sudo years ago when I dumped Ubuntu but I remember the % always puzzled me so you are not alone.  Very happy to hear you worked things out.  Currently I am in the middle of my own quagmire so can sympathize.

#2372 Re: Intergalactic Communities » French Speaking Forum » 2018-09-01 21:37:37

#2373 Re: Other Issues » Devuan Beowulf /etc/devuan_version » 2018-09-01 18:59:34

There hasn't been much work done yet on beowulf.  Please file a bug report.

#2374 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Can't boot to live Refracta 9 disc » 2018-09-01 03:05:46

gksu should launch synaptic.  It works for me from a panel launcher.
