#1901 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Configuring Liferea » 2019-11-19 03:39:08

Maybe I'm just doing something stupid . . .  <<<<  this

~/.config/liferea/liferea.css

Is the file that's needed to change colors etc.

I thought I'd have a look at #10: Custom CSS for Article Rendering  and the link is dead:

So, what happens?  Can someone resubmit the job, or does it just sit for days until something mysterious fixes it?

Fix has been in limbo for 2 months:

Those involved just had a discussion on irc.  Hopefully will move forward soon, possibly by the end of the week.

#1904 Re: Other Issues » InRelease, Release, and Release.gpg files need updating » 2019-11-18 16:21:40

Unfortunately, this is a recurring problem that is out of Devuan's control to correct at the source.  No matter how many times it happens, no one who is able to fix it seems to be interested it tracking down the glitch.

#1906 Re: Devuan » Why are pulseaudio files present in Devuan? » 2019-11-14 16:38:51

With FF now depending on it, that is unlikely.

Why not reviewing a Devuan with Trinity desktop environment?

Because Devuan does not offer Trinity as an option.  The possibility was discussed several years ago but went nowhere.  The Devuan derivative http://exegnulinux.net uses Trinity.

#1909 Re: Installation » ascii 2.1 iso with openrc install doesnt work » 2019-11-06 17:11:04

With the 2.1 point release, openrc no longer requires an expert install.  Even the graphical installer offers the option.  Remember that openrc is still tied to sysvinit scripts:

This from https://dev1galaxy.org/search.php?actio … er_id=5727 titled "Solving Init Compatibility":

Openrc

Openrc is provided as an alternative service manager from the Devuan installer, which is already a step up from Debian. However, this is far from a replacement to sysvinit. In fact, it simply runs atop it. Sysvinit scripts are still used during initialization, and no openrc run scripts are provided as replacements for the various sysvinit scripts used in starting services. In recent versions of Openrc, it comes with its own init. This skips inittab and boots openrc directly, but since it still uses sysvinit scripts, it’s noticeably slower. Also, without providing getty scripts, the user won’t even reach the login prompt. Gentoo provides all the run scripts we could ever need, and so bringing them over is not an impossibility. Why bother using openrc run scripts and using openrc as an init and a service manager? The scripts are much easier to read, and process supervision would be handled much more cleanly. There’s also faster boot times and better overall performance, but your mileage may vary on those claims.

#1911 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Parrot OS and Devuan » 2019-10-27 17:25:46

A note from Parrot OS:

we are not based on devuan yet, and the rolling branch is still based on debian testing

meanwhile we have an experimental lts branch that tracks devuan, and we plan to release a lts version of parrot (5.0) for both x86 and arm architectures, and keep it aside to the rolling edition that will remain the same as now (but amd64 only)

the eta is "when it's ready"

This point release includes all updates since the 2.0.0 release.

"Reputation systems" are just mob click-bait.  Really beneath the quality of users that populate this forum.

#1914 Re: News & Announcements » ASCII 2.1 point release » 2019-10-22 14:01:18

That would best be discussed on #devuan-arm where the arm devs hang out.

Dear dev1ers . . .

The Devuan ASCII 2.1 point release has begun. The installer isos,
desktop-live and minimal-live isos are currently available for
download here:
http://files.devuan.org/devuan_ascii/
Other images will be uploaded as they are ready.

- The option to choose openrc is more prominent and no longer requires
an Expert install. You can't miss it.

- If you would like to select an alternate bootloader (lilo) or
exclude non-free firmware, you must select one of the Expert install
options.

- The recommended default mirror is now deb.devuan.org.  If you would
like to use a country code mirror, please check
https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/mirror_list.txt to see if there is one
suitable for your needs.

There is more information in the Release Notes:
http://files.devuan.org/devuan_ascii/Release_notes.txt

Source: https://lists.dyne.org/lurker/message/2 … ef.en.html

Once the point release is completed, we can focus on putting final touches on Beowulf.

#1920 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » wvdial - solved » 2019-09-26 14:43:42

It wouldn't be in devuan-packages because we pull it directly from Debian unaltered.   It most certainly can be accessed through the Devuan repos.

Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians

Live version shows visual relationship of the musicians but has technical "warts" here and there.

Just surrender and swim in it.

I read the info, i selected the cd rom set, the install never asked for the second nor third iso cdrom.

The installer would probably ask for the second or third iso if the selections you made required packages from them.

#1923 Re: Installation » Devuan ASCII on Lenovo T430 » 2019-09-26 01:49:36

Please read the ISO guide on the index page of the Devuan website that will help you to choose the iso that best suits your needs.

No.  We are currently trying to put out a point release with current upgrades.  Hopefully won't take too long.  The point release will be announced here and on all other communication channels.
