#102 Re: Installation » Boot issue » 2025-11-18 00:14:30

Welcome to Devuan, rosun . . .

I can't begin to answer your question (for many reasons) but probably no one else can either because there is no information about which installer you used or any  other important installation data. Please do try to give us more details.

Many thanks for the clarification tux_99. smile

This addition is a bit off-topic but possibly historically relevant/interesting, especially to the younger generation who might be unaware of its existence over 25 years ago. I have used this method several times over the years and it never failed me:

HowTo Build a Package from Source the Smart Way (from Soul Singin')

My package building days are long over but I am wondering if reinventing the wheel is just a face-lift or something completely different.

Please do not quote entire posts. Trim them to essential points you want to hi-light. Thanks.

I've been boycotting github for years . . . MS can kiss my skinny behind.  yikes

#109 Re: Off-topic » Hard Rust requirements for APT from may next year » 2025-11-13 23:25:51

Those of us who have been using Linux for decades have done our part. Now, it's up to the younger generation to acquire that knowledge or it will just be a footnote in history . . . or not even that. So saddle up if you want to save apt or any of the other code that is being hijacked to turn Linux into windows.

#111 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » [SOLVED] Cannot change background » 2025-11-12 20:06:10

You did not mention which desktop you are using. IIRC, in the newest Xfce the gtk(4?) will not allow changing the desktop wallpaper. Last I heard, there is no "nocsd" option available . . . yet. That is one reason I am still happily using Chimaera . . .

/me is reluctant to search what NSFW stands for (and I don't want to know) but 2 seconds of viewing the home page was quite unpleasant . . .

@HardSun . . . you are just such a ray of sunshine . . . NOT. I am so sick and tired of the "we need modern tools and technologies" bullshit. Nothing good comes of it. It has been all downhill for decades . . .

Would be nice if you shared some good news . . .

Or click on the [ code ] button in the list above the input window. Without the extra spaces, of course. They are needed here to make the function visible in text mode.

Happy to help configure your phone!

@EDX-0 . . . If you are referring to the Vuu-do Linux creator, try "greenjeans".

WOW! It seems that resistance is not futile! Thanks for all the valuable suggestions!!

@zapper . . . thanks for the tip. Hopefully I'll never have to use it!

FWIW . . . I said NO WAY to a cell phone too!

I have been banned from a couple of harmless geek interest type forums for refusing to give my age verification (copy of passport, driving license etc) on principle and for security reasons.

Bravo! I would do the same!!

Wanted to make sure y'all caught this gem from Cory Doctorow via Amanpour & Co:

The “Ensh*ttification” of the Internet and How to Fix It

"What with the rise in AI-generated ads, pop-ups and reams of information, author Cory Doctorow says, "The internet is getting worse, fast." He joins the show to discuss his latest book examining where it all went wrong and how we can fix it."

Interestingly, I have never frequented any of the offenders mentioned. They always gave me the creeps and I could see it coming . . .

#125 Re: Devuan » Please don't ever drop cinnabar themes » 2025-10-25 22:26:34

@recklessswing . . . Happy you are still enjoying Cinnabar. All the themes will remain available but at some point they may not work in some desktops or with updated GTK. I seem to remember hearing that Xfce will prevent custom desktop theming at some point. I am on the trailing edge so everything still works.
