Are you trying to boot an arm64 installer on your Sun Ultra 24 WS ?
That netinstall iso has some isolinux software residue for i386 but in general it's intended to run a grub boot system for arm64. In particular, the linux kernel is an arm64 kernel. Whomever that put that iso together didn't conscientiously remove irrelevant but (normally) unused files, and in particular it does seem to have some dangling i386 boot loaders.
Well "Devuan" is actually like a warehouse of software rather than a particular distribution so it all depends on which particular setup you want to have. The most recent "excalibur netinstall", which provides a range of distribution choices with the most recent software, will want at least 800 Mb RAM to run and would comfortably install most of its graphical desktop environments on an 8 Gb disk. Though, today one will want at least 20 Gb disk to be somewhat "future proof".
Almost all software is compiled for several architectures, including both 32-bit and 64 architectures. In debian parlance they have names like i386, amd64, armel, armhf, arm64, risc64, ppc64el etc.

I'd guess your "I chose RUNIT" means to install some software, and your /etc/apt/sources.list nominates /media/cdrom as a repository (of cdrom type), which is one of the babies that came with the installation. If you remove that, or comment it out, in /etc/apt/sources.list your system (aka "it") will no longer ask for that repository.

in fact, if you look into /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf which is the main configuration file for alsa, you will see that it looks for configuration files in many places. I suggested /etc/alsa/conf.d/ because that is commonly used by many packages and especially bluez-alsa-utils (which provides a virtual sound card for playback and capture via bluez bluetooth mediation).
Some people prefer using ~/.asoundrc instead, since that is written/editable by the non-root end user. However it will also only be used by that non-root end user and not shared among all users.
Since the analog out put is on your card 1, you should create a file
/etc/alsa/conf.d/00-defaults.conf with the following line:
defaults.pcm.!card 1
Sometimes one can use https://pkginfo.devuan.org to learn about packages and their dependencies. It doesn't offer much in terms of reflections on underlying motivations though.
That doesn't sound like an active mirror but I guess you looked carefully in devuan_excalibur/installer-iso/.
The mirrors are otherwise listed at https://www.devuan.org/get-devuan and if you find an inactive one you could "report" that eg as a "devuan-www" bug at https:///bugs.devuan.org.
You might want to try the newest devuan_excalibur_6.0-20250605_amd64_netinstall.iso which does include very recent firmware that possibly could help with the keyboard issue. That ISO is further improved to support boot via a Ventoy stick boot loading, which I'm guessing will suit you.
Very peculiar opinions you are voicing there. Especially I would consider "GUI tool that makes configuring it for online use" being a quite oxymoronic phrase. It's kind of like saying: "but he is friendly to the kids". Of course, I voice my opinion here.
Use the shell phrase $((0x100)) to specify offset value 256; and similarly $((0x35feed63)) for offset value 905899363.
The parameters would be skip=?? for the infile and seek=?? for the outfile. The value is in block size counts.
Bring up a terminal and use the command

(as the user that owns the Xorg process)
The -nolisten tcp gets added to the Xorg command line by the /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc start up script when invoked by startx. Aaccording to man startx the start up script may be overridden by the user (root?) who starts Xorg.
For experimentation you could edit that file, changing it to -listen tcp before restarting Xorg to see that it works. (It should)
If you check with pgrep -a Xorg (on the host where it is running) you will se that it is started with the parameter -nolisten tcp which means precisely that, that the server doesn't listen for connections on its standard tcp port (well not on any port).
To run remotely the way you attempt to do it requires you to start Xorg without that parameter.
When you've figured out how to do that, you have passed "Xorg usage 101" I'll have a browse myself meanwhile, and we can have it as a race....

Yes, pulseaudio is quite "intrusive"; it installs itself as the default audio path handler into the ALSA configuration which makes it difficult to use together with alternatives or differently by different users or different use cases.
Similarly it seems mocp has a per-user configuration making it hard for a user to have it used differently in different use cases. And being server based, I guess it will be determined by the start-up use case for the server.
I actually had a different issue, namely that my analog output is on card 1, and I didn't have the default CTL device configured properly. So now, instead of solving it with apulse I have the following in my /etc/alsa/conf.d/00-defaults.conf
defaults.pcm.!card 1
defaults.ctl.!card 1
For you, the use case differentiator would be with the files /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf.d/pulse.conf and/or /usr/share/alsa/pulse-alsa.conf, which define how pulseaudio hooks into ALSA. If those files are absent, then pure ALSA is in use, and with those files in place pulseaudio takes over the audio path (I don't remeber which is "the master").
And there is also /etc/alsa/conf.d/99-pulse.conf...

Preliminary strace suggests it needs a "mixer" PCM
I don;t know what mocp does (not in the repo), but I would expect if you run it via apulse it'd be happy using pure ALSA.
Afaiui, I'd note that ALSA is the sound system the kernel implements for operating the sound card(s). All layers above that, including s.c. sound servers, typically just use the ALSA API with various forms of wrappings over it. I.e., ALSA is not an alternative but a more basic API level.
What does "Alsa complains of no sound server" mean?

a devuan repository is actually a kind of overlay where it provides all index files (the dists trees) but has only the forked packages in its pool tree. All other packages are set up to be accessed directly from debian's repositories. This is done by the index including a URI prefix of either DEVUAN or DEBIAN for the packages' filename attribute, so that the devuan server (and mirror) can distinguish and respond with redirect's for the DEBIAN packages. Good find; appears to be a sysctl default with linux-image-6.1.0-28-amd64 (current daedalus). I guess someone found a "security" sticker and needed somewhere to put it so decided that "Oh! non-root users shouldn't be allowed to 'ping' willy-nilly"... or something.
Slightly odd though that you don't have the same with your debian setup, but perhaps that non-root user is more capable(?). (As we often find repeated: the packages in devuan are mostly debian's packages directly and not changed, other than the few that are forked and compiled by devuan)

Though I see that your strawberry deb is not the one in the Devuan (Debian) repository. So whilst your method is good or indeed very good, its details differ from a Devuanite experience which at least will find pulseaudio promoted (demoted) into (indirect) Recommends.

If it uses some pcap connection (like "user" networking in qemu), then it would only support IP level networking and ICMP would not be supported. I agree it's an LXC (on Devuan) issue although it may also be an admin choice of local networking. (I don't know LXC well enough to tell).

I think one should have a broad interpretation that aims to include everyone who think of themselves as a Devuan person. "Devuan Infrastructure" would include any and all means such a person would use for acting as Devuan person; in particular it then does include IRC groups at libera.chat even though the underlying networking and server equipment for that has a broader context than just for Devuan. (golinux likely meant only that the people providing libera.chat do so independently from any Devuan discussion group)
So in my mind, "Devuan infrastructure" would also include all mirroring of packages and ISOs and DNS service as well as the "health checking" of that, in addition to the git store and the build system and other services that explicitly are maintained in the name of Devuan.
The "central" part, i.e., the equipment paid by the registered devuan organisation, currently comprises three bare-metal hosts in Europe that together hold 28 virtual hosts with different service roles. Some of those are "inwards facing", such as package, ISO and docker image building (not to forget "amprolla", which prepares the repository indexes for the Devuan repositories) as well as the git store, bug tracking and more. A few services are for organisational purposes, such as email and backup, and some other are "outwards facing", such as web, forum, wiki and mailing list(s).
