Okay. Not long after I removed the elogind packages and rebooted, I ran updates just to see what would appear, and the elogind packages were back again. I went ahead and installed them. Shutdown options stopped working again. So, I just stopped the elogind service from running.
To stop the elogind service, open your terminal, and enter...
sudo pam-auth-updateA window will open and show the various services. If you're unfamiliar with this type of window, use your arrow keys to move up/down the list. Use the space bar to mark/unmark a selection.
Remove the mark from the elogind service.
Use the Tab key to highlight OK.
Hit Enter on your keyboard.
Do a sudo reboot in the terminal, and after the reboot, the shutdown options will be back to normal. Now I need to figure out more about elogind... ![]()
Thanks for your help stanz. It is elogind causing the issue. It came along with the new desktop-base package.
For a quick'n dirty fix...see the next post.
Since you use Synaptic, open it up and search for elogind.
Right-click on it, and choose to mark it for removal. That will automatically mark another elogind package for removal. Next, mark libelogind0 for removal. Then Apply.
After those are removed, try your shutdown menu. It will only offer 3 options at the moment. If you choose Logout, you will be able to reboot from the login screen from the option in the top right corner.
...or...
use a sudo reboot from the terminal should work.
After rebooting, the normal Shutdown menu will be back and work again. ![]()
Thanks again for posting your output in the terminal. ![]()
Thanks. That reminds me. I also remember seeing those elogind packages. elogind must be clashing with consolekit. I'll see what I can figure out further.
No ma'am, I didn't.
I'm just perplexed at why the latest desktop-base was included in one normal upgrade, but it necessitated a dist-upgrade in the other two installations. Strange... ![]()
Okay, now I'm completely bumfuzzled.
I went to yet another installation. This one was the MiyoLinux from 2016. I have recently installed it and upgraded it to Ascii.
I ran updates.
The latest desktop-base was included with the regular upgrade (?)...not part of the dist-upgrade. I went ahead and did the upgrade to see what would happen.
Obsession works perfectly afterward.
So...I went back to the second installation that I didn't run the dist-upgrade on. I ran updates, and again, the desktop-base was not included in a regular upgrade. ????? I would've had to do a dist-upgrade to get it.
All three installations are Ascii. All three installations are using the pkgmaster repos. The only difference is that the third installation was upgraded from Jessie to Ascii; whereas, the first two were Ascii to begin with.
I don't know what to think...
Oh dear...
With the upgrade today (in Miyo XTRA Ascii), I saw there were "some to upgrade" and "some held back". I looked at what was held back, and one of the items was the latest desktop base.
I cancelled the upgrade and proceeded to do a dist-upgrade to get the new desktop base. Even with the dist-upgrade, there were still two packages held back...having to do with polkit if I remember correctly.
After the dist-upgrade, I was no longer able to shutdown/reboot from the obsession logout menu. I could still logout, but that was it. I went to another installation, and only did a normal upgrade instead of a dist-upgrade, and everything is working as normal.
I'm still trying to figure out what happened with the dist-upgrade on my other installation, but I haven't figured it out yet.
So...if you're using Miyo XTRA Ascii, to save yourself a bit of trouble, don't do a dist-upgrade just yet...
I don't know whether Miyo XTRA Jessie has been affected by this or not.
No...thank you stanz. ![]()
Thx for the HowTo...!
But, I feel I'm in over my head, by trying such a minimal system.
I'm just`a new-user now...walking thru a forest of packages & apps...
only to dream, of some day ~ becoming an advanced user.I mean, really ~ how to put an icon in the panel!? who asks that these days..!
I mean, really ~ I JUST got sound working last nite...after MINUTES of trying!
and now something is broken...I get music once I login ~ really loud too!I cannot succumb to enjoy this experience, only advanced users are privy to...
If I do...I might install Miyo on ALL my `puters in the house!
I might slip-up and tell 2 friends...that may tell 2 friends...Even my wife is oooh`ing and aaah`ing...at the sight of Miyo & Openbox!!
Thats gone tooo far...I must turn away with shame..not to put her thru this!We must stay-the-course, and install bloated os's, with a ba-zillion dependences,
that come pre-installed with apps - we know nothing about & will never use..We're not meant to Miyo-ourselves...seeing these things hurt the brain.
I've already hijacked this fine thread ~ with my regular-user ranting...
I will edit this post, after only thrashing myself, by installing micro-sh*t &
using my blind-eye..to enjoy Gbytes of unknown backdoors & databases of
personal information, sent to the mothership.
stanz, I like your style! ![]()
...and this...
Even my wife is oooh`ing and aaah`ing...at the sight of Miyo & Openbox!!
Thats gone tooo far...I must turn away with shame..not to put her thru this!
I'll be honest, I can't tell how much of your post is serious or facetious. ![]()
I didn't think a thing about your inquiry about adding an icon on the tint2 panel. If someone isn't familiar with it, then by all means, I want to help them if possible. ![]()
I well remember my struggles when first using something new...especially when I was new to anything "Linux". ![]()
If you would like to have some "xtra" options for the tint2 panel's look in MiyoLinux, I've compiled several other configurations that you can choose from. There are several vertical and horizontal panels included...and I also made a "MiyoLinux Default" configuration file so that a user can return to it if they wish.
Instructions:
1. Download the .zip file from...
https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code … r3ip8w0mQX
2. Open the file manager as root, navigate to the downloaded file, and extract the .zip file to...
/usr/share/tint2
Hopefully, you've installed an archive manager such as Xarchiver. ![]()
3. The new tint2 configurations should now be accessible from the Tint2 Settings application in your menu.
Have fun...and make it your own! ![]()
I'm on my phone and doing this from memory...hopefully I'll get it right. ![]()
In the right-click menu, under Settings in the General category, there is an application called Tint2 Panel (or Tint2 Settings). Click on it to open it.
When it opens, it will show previews of two panels. The one on top is the panel that's in use and should already be highlighted. Click the Edit button.
A new window will open. Look on the left side of that window, and click on Launchers.
The current launchers that are on your panel are on the left. In the middle are arrows, and on the right will be all of the available applications that you can add to the panel.
On the right, find the application that you want to add to the panel. Click the application one time to highlight it, and use the left arrow key to move it over to join with the current ones on your panel. You can also reposition the current launchers by using the up/down arrows. Same process...click once to highlight a launcher, and use the arrows to move it up or down...or use the right arrow to remove a launcher from the panel.
When you're finished, click Apply. The new launcher(s) should now be on your actual panel, and you can close the tint2 settings window.

LOL! No...and yes!
After making that file, one could add it to the tint2 panel if they wanted to. ![]()
Imagine a gleem sparkling off the teeth of that smiley face...
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL! ![]()
Well...I just realized that I neglected to make a desktop entry for the MiyoLinux Control Center so that it appears in the LXPanel and Xfce4 panel menus. ![]()
I had added it manually to the Openbox menu...so since I'm an idiot, that's the only menu it shows up in. DOH! ![]()
So, if you would like to have it available in the LXpanel and Xfce4 panel menus, here's the quick'n dirty way...
1. Open your file manager, make it show hidden files, and navigate to...
/.local/share/
2. Right-click and create a new Folder named...
applications
3. Open the newly created applications folder. Right-click and create a new Empty file.
4. Name the file. You can name the file anything you want as long as another application isn't using the same name, and it has to end with .desktop (I named mine miyocc.desktop)
5. Copy and paste the following into the file...
[Desktop Entry]
Name=MiyoLinux Control Center
Comment=Customize the look, configuration, and settings of your system
Exec=/bin/miyo-cc
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Icon=/usr/share/miyolinux/miyolinux.png
Categories=Settings;6. Save the file. Then close it.
The newly made file should now have the MiyoLinux icon with the name MiyoLinux Control Center underneath the icon. It should also now appear in all of your menus. ![]()
In the LXPanel menu, it will be in the Preferences category. In the Xfce4 Panel menu, it will be in the Settings category.
Sorry that I failed to do that when I built it. ![]()
Good deal! Once you get the hang of Openbox, it becomes second nature...but I warn you...you'll hate yourself for not using it sooner! LOLOLOL!

As to having my own forum...to be honest, I don't have the time. I work 6 days a week and work crazy hours at that. Between work and trying to have a family life, there's not much time for much else. That's also why Miyo only includes Devuan repositories...if anything ever happened to me, users wouldn't lose a thing, and they could keep using it. I try to pop in here as I'm able, but sometimes others have had to answer questions about Miyo for me when I haven't checked in...for which I'm extremely grateful.
There is a "Derivatives" section here on the forum that you could use if you have any questions about Miyo or any of the other Devuan derivatives.
Have fun and make it your own! ![]()
I'm gonna venture into Miyo's ascii release, right after I set up disk for dual boot!
Prepare yourself to be amazed and to "ooh" and "ahh" as you experience Miyoification first-hand... ![]()
...or not.
![]()
LOLOLOL!!!
Sorry stanz...you don't know me very well, but I think the folks here have come to accept my quirky sense of humor...or lack thereof. ![]()
If you try it, I hope you enjoy it. ![]()
First, I apologize for commandeering this thread today. Apparently, golinux has some kind of super-secrety-supremo intuition about all kinds of stuff... ![]()
On the end of my lazy Saturday, I end it with one final post. This is from a band that deserved much more recognition than they received. So here's a throwback to my misspent youth and some great memories...
Hooray! Glad that worked for you! ![]()
As my free time on Saturday continues, I'm reminded of...
Conan teaches the Blues to first graders...
Am I supposed to know who that is?
LOL! I don't even know who it is!
Am I having a lazy Saturday?
Maybe.
Don't wanna give up all my personal life's info!
LOLOLOLOL!!!
...and just for fun. ![]()
...and if you have time, here's 12 minutes you can waste. ![]()
I'm a fan of epic music, and everyone can use a little "Meatloaf" in their diet... ![]()
Discovered Tangerine Dream for the first time back in 1986.
Here's a little Joe Satriani for everyone...
I installed it, tried an online radio station, and it wouldn't play like you said...well...it was playing, but there was no sound.
You need to install...
gstreamer1.0-plugins-badAfter I installed that, I had sound. ![]()
Had a similar situation getting Pragha to play (Pragha isn't in the repositories)...
Can't help with the hotkeys...sorry.
@Miyo . . . steve_v has long since left the building. But he did test after I asked him to see if elogind fixed things and he said:
Yes, power management in KDE now works, if eudev & elogind are installed.
Ahhh...okay. Hey...I might give it another go too then! ![]()
When I was using Plasma on Ascii, I installed lightdm instead of sddm. At that time (SEVERAL months ago), all of the shutdown options were working. I vaguely remember trying sddm, and was also experiencing problems...that's why I went with lightdm. Also, I built it from a netinstall and the base system. You can see what I did here... https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=5378#p5378
I eventually had to replace Plasma, because it was running one of my CPUs at 100% all of the time. Again, that was months ago, so I can't speak for how things are now.
