Hello.

A bit on the side, but if you want to learn parted, from cli that is, you may find this useful: https://www.gnu.org/software/parted/manual/parted.html, it's not too hard really; neither is fdisk for that matter.

#52 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Choosing an email client » 2020-09-12 21:15:19

KMail is decent enough in my view, the drawback is that every now and again, with upgrades, something tends to fail; however, with everything set-up and working properly, KMail is very good and feature rich as far as I see it.

I have used the whole Kontact suite for many years.

Hello.

Don't know if this has been discussed before, but after upgrading to Beowulf I found I had to be in the directory of /sbin to execute some network related configuration programs located there; I guessed, correctly, that /sbin wasn't in the path, however, the ip command does work which puzzled me a bit.

Any thoughts on this?

Olav

#55 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » How can VLC media player download only the audio of a video stream? » 2020-06-19 14:38:32

Hei!

Codes are changing all the time, I suppose; just look at Googles Youtube practise.
What you might do, of course, is to record the played stream, say with Audacity.

Probably not the answer you wanted, but still.

I'm sorry, my silly mistake; all is well and I'm too ashamed to tell what went wrong.

Thanks,
Olav

The thing is that packages which used to be available no longer are.

But, thanks for your reply:)

There are now a very limited amount of packages available from the repoes, haven't checked which ones are actually available though.

Are there something wrong with the ASCII repositories?
Do we have to change the URLs after ASCII was moved to old-stable?

Thanks,
Olav

Sorry, should have mentioned, I'm on ASCII.

Hei!

For some time now AmaroK and MariaDB have been incompatible, some solutions to this?

The amarok database reported the following errors:
GREPME MySQLe query failed! (2000) Error message file '/usr/share/kde4/apps/amarok/mysqle/errmsg.sys' had only 982 error messages, but it should contain at least 983 error messages.
Check that the above file is the right version for this program! on init
In most cases you will need to resolve these errors before Amarok will run properly.

This is from a fresh install, and it is similar on several other computers.

Thanks,
Olav

#62 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » What games do you play on Devuan?? » 2020-06-04 19:45:36

Hei!

I used to play a lot of games earlier, mainly strategy games as: Cossacks, HOMM 3, Settlers 3, Empire Earth and so on.
Hidden and Dangerous and Morrowind were also marvellous games, I enjoyed Morrowind far more than Skyrim.

These days (I hardly play anymore though) I mostly play Left4Dead, Alien Isolation and FIFA; recently bought Soma which I/we will start playing soon, Amnesia and Penumbra were super!

Hei all!

I experience some issues with sound running «appimages» apps; [mod] actually the only one I've tried is qTox.

I'm on KDE, not running PulseAudio, and multiple source audio is working very well; however, qTox, the «appimage» app, is a different story, it takes exclusive control over my sound-device.

Anyone with some experience concerning this?

Thanks,
Olav

https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=3165

I didn't read through all the posts and thus don't know if it's related, however, I've had the above (link) 'problem' over and over again when using the repository packed packages of the NVIDIA driver.

Might help,

#65 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » NVIDIA-driver issue - KDE desktop » 2019-11-22 22:00:22

It seems, so far, that the issue with dependencies (not met and, thus, suggestions to deinstall {almost} all of KDE) are resolved if I install the «nvidia-driver-bin», with recommended packages (some in - some out), before I proceed with the «nvidia-driver» installation.

Thank you, working on it now, it gave some more info.
I'll come back with more info later.

Very strange, but it has been a continuous issue on three computers now, and for a while really; if I try to use the repository NVIDIA compiled packages, say trying to install 'nvidia-driver' (meta package), I am forced tor deinstall all the KDE environment?

Any suggestions to this?

Olav

Nice to have a «KDE-relative» on this forum!
Sorry for not being present earlier!

#69 Re: Off-topic » Boom Times or financial apocalypse » 2019-07-16 19:25:59

Well done Jaromil!!

Lets just discuss everything!
Political filters (as well as religious ones), sorting out, is just stupid; among various aspects of this OS I do recognise Devuan in a global political context, and as such, the former statement follows logically!

Please, let us not be like so many other forums/plenums but just open up discussions concerning «everything 'relevant'»; the virtual part of our existence is increasingly playing an influential role in peoples lives, thus, discuss and argue, concrete or abstract, analyse and synthesise ...

Although this is primarily a distro forum I think it's not inappropriate to open up for a (even) wider discussion, not at least given the founding premises for its formation.

Olav

Reading what little is on the mailing list, it seemed less likely I'd interact with dyne - concerning
anything Devuan.

My next donation will not go thru dyne! We'll chat about that one day.  tongue

Strange with such a harsh reply to that post?

#72 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Is "apt autoremove" still trustworthy (as it used to be)? » 2019-06-16 13:55:32

Be fair Giorgos, irritated you may be on HoaS but you shouldn't blame it on Devuan; in my view, this forum, as well as the distro, is quite well maintained.

Just a thought, but I would do a «memtest» to see if the RAM is alright also.

I had a quick search for one of those errors: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=522127
