...been playing around with it on-and-off for about a week...
...and still can't get sound to work.
...but my wireless connection worked great!
Oh dear...
This reminds me of something from my past.
Back around 2015 or 2016...when Archyness was really reaching its height in popularity...I had heard that Arch followed the KISS principle and only installed the packages that you needed.
OKAY!
That interested me, because I was used to building my system from a Debian netinstall. I had also built systems from the Ubuntu base (sorry, I don't remember what it was called)...
Anywho...
I had a list of packages that I installed on my Debian/Ubuntu systems for a bare-bones Openbox system.
I decided that since Archifontiferous was so highly lauded, I would try it.
I split my hard drive into 3 partitions, and installed a bare-bones Openbox system onto each partition...one with Debian, one with Ubuntu, and one with Arch.
The results were as follows...
Lowest RAM at startup - Ubuntu (Seriously??? Hahahahaha!)
2nd lowest RAM at startup - Debian
Highest RAM at startup - Arch
Lowest disk space used - Debian
2nd lowest disk space used - Ubuntu
Highest disk space used - Arch
Arch was last in both cases.
No hate against Arch, and I haven't tried this experiment since then...but I have no desire to use a system that claims one thing but does another... I guess their KISS philosophy is to keep it simple and install junk that users don't need??? I don't know.
If I want a rolling release, I'll use unstable on Devuan/Debian.
Sorry Archipontificators...
EDIT: To remove double words. By the way, it's Arch's fault...
has a crapton of ...
Now you're getting into my happy space! Hahahahahaha! Well said man...well said!
Jeff Beck. RIP.
Indeed.
I have several things... ...that I've built (aka coded) and include with MiyoLinux releases, but I don't think they're really worth making "repository builds" for; they're basically just convenience-items that I include on MiyoLinux.
Perhaps My Crappy Radio Player and the MiyoLinux Update Notifier (which I don't actually include in MiyoLinux releases) may be of interest to some folks? I don't know, but I would be glad to package them for a Community Repository if desired.
The firefox-esr packages are compiled with the --enable-alsa option, unlike the shite Mozilla ship.
https://salsa.debian.org/mozilla-team/f … fig.in#L32
EDIT: so you don't mind user studies being enabled? That would bother me.
Okay. Well see, that's why I said Firefox and not Firefox-ESR from the repos. The OP is using Seamonkey, and Seamonkey isn't in the repos. Therefore, I assume he's installing it apart from the repos. Hence, my assumption that it too may possibly require apulse in order to work out of the box...but I have no idea.
I disable all of those studies right after installing it. So unless something nefarious is going on, no, they aren't enabled.
MiyoLinux wrote:if you're using alsa-only in Firefox, the package apulse is needed to have sound
No it isn't.
Do you mind explaining why it isn't needed?
I don't use Firefox-ESR (or Firefox) from the repos. I use the packages from Mozilla, and they won't work out of the box without apulse.
I'm no sound-expert, so these are just tips that have worked for me. You may want to wait and see if people with more knowledge respond before trying what I'm going to post here.
Assuming you are using only Alsa for sound...
You can look at this and see if it helps...
https://sourceforge.net/p/miyolinux/wiki/Sound/
Next, if you open a terminal, and enter the command...
alsamixer
...do you see a column for Speakers?
If so, at the bottom of that column, is it showing MM?
If so, that means your speakers are muted.
If that's the case, with that MM highlighted, can you press m on your keyboard to unmute your speakers, and then use your arrow keys to increase the volume?
Also, there is an Automute column that may appear if you use your arrow key to scroll to the right. If it's there, highlight it, and use your "up/down" arrow key to turn that off.
Is the issue with "no sound" coming from trying to hear things in your web browser (SeaMonkey)? I haven't use SeaMonkey in many years. So, I'm not familiar with it these days.
If I recall correctly, Seamonkey uses the same rendering engine as Firefox.
What I can tell is...if you're using alsa-only in Firefox, the package apulse is needed to have sound...but I don't understand why you would have sound in your headphones but not the speakers.
This Dutch band really brings out my Scottish Highlander Symphonic Metal heritage...
That's a fantastic idea!

Yours is not the first such request. There are many attractive and useful user-contributed "extras" but they are unlikely to ever be added to devuan itself. Why? Our mission is to provide Debian without systemd . . . full stop.
Fair enough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thank you for your interest MrReplikant. I appreciate it.

Yay! Looks much better in minty dark and green
Any chance of using checkinstall to create a .deb file install?
I had considered making a .deb file, but at the end of the day, I prefer for people to be able to unzip the file and easily see the scripts and what they entail...so that they could easily see that nothing nefarious is going on.
I always try to keep anything that I do as simple and basic as possible because of that. It's the "Miyo way".
Doing so will hopefully help people learn some basic scripting...but it may cause script-sperts (scripting-experts) to roll their eyes and look at me with a bit of...well...you know.
LOLOLOLOLOL!
...but that's okay with me.
Thanks for your interest MLEvD!
If you try the radio player, but you don't like the default orange icons, I've also uploaded some extra icons that are green. I like them better myself.
Also, if you want to use any other icons, just copy the ones that you want to use into /usr/share/pixmaps and name them accordingly so the my-crappy-radio-player script will use them. Below are the names of the icons (along with the sizes)
mcrp.svg (size of 16x16 px...used on the titlebar and buttons)
mcrp2.svg (size of 24x24 px...used for the system tray)
mcrp3.svg (size of 48x48 px...used for the desktop file)
EDIT: Silly me...I forgot to include the download link...again!
Please also add:

and also selectukradio stream, thanks
New versions with the requested stations are now available...
You could just replace the my-crappy-radio-player script with the new one; however, after adding the new stations, I had to increase the horizontal dimension of the logo. If you just replace that script, the old logo will still work, but it will be slightly off-center. So I would suggest replacing the mcrp.png image with the new one (if desired).
I also updated the my-crappy-radio-player-about script to show the change in version numbers.
Thanks!
EDIT: Silly me...I forgot to include the download link...
Since I'm having no idea for a third radio station, I've stolen the station from HOAS's post regarding "New Brighton Radio NPR".
Please also add:

and also selectukradio stream, thanks
Hi MLEvD,
Sure! I'm glad to help.
I have both stations working in the build, but it's throwing off the cohesive look of My Crappy Radio Player's GUI by adding only two extra radio stations.
Instead of completely changing the GUI's layout, I'll add a third station to keep the look of it cohesive.
...'cause I'm all cohesive n'stuff.
cohesive...
cohesion...
cohesiveness...
cohesiveprocity....
LOLOL!!!
it's just a couple of scripts.
Sorry. I'm a stinkin' liar. It's not just a couple of scripts.
It's a coupl'a scripts...and...some icons.
i hope you can forgive me.
Tee hee...
Oh dear, sorry Miyo, I'm being incredibly dumb. I just tried to run alltray. What an idiot I am...
Thanks for sharing!
Oh.
Do you have a link to the source code? I'd like to try this in Arch & Alpine.
You have http://alltray.trausch.us/ as the Homepage but I can't reach it.
Wha'the???
Dude...sincerely...thanks for the interest, but I don't know why you're getting that link as the Homepage. That's making me wanna have a stinkin' nervous-jerkdown!
The source code is in the download...not that there's a source code; it's just a couple of scripts. The link to the download should go to Sourceforge. When I click on it, it goes to where it's meant to.
Here, I will post the actual link...sorry for the problem!
https://sourceforge.net/projects/miyoli … %20Player/
If anyone is interested, I've made a radio player with several different music genres of radio stations available...from Metal to Relaxation.
It's called "My Crappy Radio Player"...because it's kind'a crappy. It's basic. In other words, it's crappy.
It may be crappy, but at least it's crummy too...
Two versions are available...
1) For systems with window tasks on the panel
2) For systems without window tasks on the panel
It's available here...
Enjoy the crappiness!
As an Openbox fanboi , I recently tried out Crunchbang ++...for the second time.
After playing around with it for a while, I took a dive into the "GUI Menu Editor"...I'm not sure how I didn't notice this before.
The developer of #!++ has repackaged obmenu to work on newer systems using python3. Not only that, but he also incorporated (into obmenu) the ability to add icons to the Openbox menu (if desired).
I downloaded the .deb file from my installation of #!++, and I've installed it on Chimaera, Daedalus, and Ceres...it works perfectly on all of them!
This may be what the OP was looking for???
