I would suggest reading the link below. Although it is written from a Mint/Ubuntu point of view, over 95% of it is applicable to any distro.

I got the same thing yesterday (Thursday). Just tried it again now (Fri early morning) and it updated. So yeah, sometimes this happens and you have to wait a couple of hours.

This would explain everything.

No. Stuff like that is above my pay grade.

There was an update today so I installed it as usual. Going into the history, I see three new things listed as installed, not upgraded. They are libc++1-16, libc++abi1-16, libunwind-16. Does anyone know why these were installed when they (apparently) weren't before? And nothing else was installed/upgraded, so that rules out dependencies.

Go to Menu and under "All" find "Preferred Applications." In the Office tab, make sure Atril is selected under Document Viewer.

I will try that next time I need to completely remove something. Using Synaptic's "Complete Removal" option leaves a lot of leftover folders. So much for "Complete." hmm

That is an emphatic "no." I mean uninstall Chromium, and then manually going through and deleting all the leftover chromium folders left on the system.

Well it just happened again. Chromium lost one of my profiles. I'll try uninstalling completely and reinstalling. Hopefully that will fix it.

Has Chromium been running wonky for anybody else the last month or so? It started giving me an error message every time I opened it saying that it didn't shut down properly, do I want to restore the tabs? But it always had been shut down properly. One of the last updates seemed to have fixed this issue for me, but now when I create a new profile it keeps "forgetting" it. Happened at least twice. Anybody else getting weird issues with it? It's seriously making me consider going back to Vivaldi. I suppose the first thing I should try is to completely remove it and then reinstall it.

Good luck to file complaints to those corporate WEB-sites.... I can imagine the outcome.

I can say from being on the Pale Moon forum, which suffers from this problem even worse than Firefox, that the usual outcome is to be told "Use Chrome."

And it's not only the sites that are the problem, but also Gooble which has the power to change internet/browsing/web standards, and who also happens to have the most used browser. It's a case of the fox guarding the hen house.

I wouldn't call this voting. Just a way of keeping track of the "yeas" and "nays." And like I said in the first post, it is only something I was wondering about. I have no plans to switch. Alsa works just fine for me.

Does anybody know how to contact this Jim Acklaw? I'd like to download his version of Miyo but he doesn't include sha values on his sourceforge page. I'd like to suggest to him to start including it, but his sourceforge page also doesn't have a Discussion area like Dan's does.

Not to get philosophical here, but animals only do what they've been programed to do (to use a computer analogy). That's one thing that makes them animals. Human beings have free choice, and as you alluded to, most are using that free choice in a wrong way. Yes, I'm paying attention. smile

#49 Re: Off-topic » tl;dr: supervise children around all water, even a half-full bucket! » 2024-06-29 20:36:52

A good timely reminder. I remember telling my wife years ago when our son was very little that he can't be left alone in the bathtub. A kid can drown in an inch of water.

Natural selection has nothing to do here. Human beings are not animals.

Dan made a post just 2 days ago on his sourceforge page, and made no mention at all of this other version.

EDIT
Got the answer on Dan's sourceforge page (the link above), yes he does endorse Jim's version.
