It appears that Devuan6 live XFCE will not set up uefi booting, but it seems OK with MBR.

(I ran checksums OK)

Anyone else noticed this?

Thanks to all involved in getting this released.... smile

#28 Re: Off-topic » amdV3 - amdV4 etc? » 2025-10-30 18:05:41

Seems to just be making it more complicated for newbies.....it's all very well if you know your version, but what about those who don't? big_smile

#29 Re: Devuan Derivatives » why peppermintos? » 2025-10-18 13:17:21

The strength of Devuan is its use of XFCE - but I would still like to see a smaller .iso with maybe just WM & Firefox, but the devs have enough on their hands, I believe, just keeping systemd away... wink

Seems good here, (England).

Thanks for keeping us all together..... wink

#31 Re: Devuan Derivatives » why peppermintos? » 2025-10-16 14:45:04

Peppermint Flagship basically comes with just a web browser, & if I remember, file manager & terminal, leaving the user to download their choice of other programs.

Devuan comes complete with web browser, office suite, video player, music player, etc; basically Peppermint Fully Loaded equivalent.

I'm not a user, but did try it out a while ago. They use both Debian & Devuan distro bases.

#32 Re: Off-topic » When installing a system, do you manually partition first? » 2025-10-07 13:10:08

That was my thinking. It must be something with the HP Prodesk then, some other O/S do install OK, but I was wanting Devuan, of course. wink

#33 Re: Off-topic » When installing a system, do you manually partition first? » 2025-10-07 09:31:11

I manually set partition sizes myself, if the distro installer doesn't allow for this, I will partition disk before installing.

Root & Home usually enough for me. smile

Whilst talking installing, does Devuan install to NVME drives (?), because I couldn't get Daedalus to install to an HP Prodesk i5 fitted with one.

#34 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » [SOLVED] devuan (fresh install) noticeably slow compared to debian » 2025-09-13 08:48:38

Identical computers? Identical software? If not, that is likely your answer.

#35 Re: Devuan Derivatives » oh! an exciting new derivatives based on debootstrap: EasyOS ! » 2025-08-21 07:53:36

Easy OS is part of the Puppy Linux Family, I haven't got around to trying it yet, but sounds interesting, if you like the 'Puppy' type of distro. wink

#36 Re: ARM Builds » testing trial arm image pi 5 » 2025-08-19 08:49:08

The fan on the RPi5 only comes on when necessary, it does come on at start up for a few seconds, that is normal. wink

#37 Re: Off-topic » Why writing init scripts was so scary and people needed systemd for? » 2025-08-17 09:13:09

I keep my hand in with the BSDs, just in case Linux really does 'go bad', & also keep an eye on other operating systems such as Haiku.... big_smile

(Debian's uptake of pulseaudio & systemd were the deciding factor for abandoning pure Debian for me.) wink

#38 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » excalibur dist-upgrade? » 2025-08-16 09:25:31

Void/XFCE worked out of the box for me, only had to add Gnumeric & PySolFC, if I remember.

(Total install about 3GB on disk)

I'm just a (desktop) user, internet, videos, music, image viewing, spreadsheet work.

#39 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » excalibur dist-upgrade? » 2025-08-15 17:17:35

@g4sra

Maybe take a look at Void Linux as a possible alternative - https://voidlinux.org/

#40 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » excalibur dist-upgrade? » 2025-08-15 17:05:17

@Altoid

I'm an oldie too, & I upgrade my computers when MS Windows users sell their old kit because it can no longer support MS's latest offerings.... wink

One of my older laptops is a 2011 model i3, 2.13GHz with 4GB ram, & I have just upgraded the disk to an M2 SATA SSD in an adapter, still more than adequete, & running a slightly modified MX Linux install, (which is 'heavier' than Devuan/XFCE). smile

#42 Re: Installation » Upgrading to Excalibur » 2025-08-11 10:29:22

Use the search function & you will find 2 other threads about it..... wink

#43 Re: Off-topic » Is systemd still bad in 2025? » 2025-08-11 09:39:37

It seems to be usable - I use Raspberry Pi OS on a RPi5, which has it, but not as a particular choice, I have Devuan on my RPi4B.

UHD resolution

Crikey, I don't even like HD on small monitors, & anything bigger than 21" needs to be seen from another room.....

Love my WXGA 15" monitors.... big_smile

#46 Re: DIY » New Project, a simple music player. And now a video player!! » 2025-07-21 09:30:11

@ zapper
It doesn't matter that there are already similar players, this one is personal.... big_smile

Quick & dirty music player to me is mc. smile

#47 Re: Installation » Fresh install vs dist-upgrade for next release » 2025-07-21 09:23:57

Another thing, I have multiple computers, & have learned to set up one how I want, then take a snapshot & use that to install to other computers. wink

#48 Re: Installation » Fresh install vs dist-upgrade for next release » 2025-07-20 14:02:17

Back up your personal data, (as usual), make notes of any config changes you made, then do a dist upgrade.

If it doesn't work out, install afresh.

#50 Re: Installation » [SOLVED] Shifting /home » 2025-06-30 07:40:04

Use fstab & disk ID to set it up.
