#2676 Re: Devuan » contrib and non-free repositories should be disabled by default » 2018-05-01 15:28:58

We welcome a range of users here but 'novice' is not really our target audience.

HOORAY to the one and only MIYO!!

#2678 Re: Devuan Derivatives » [Miyo] How to set daily trim job? [SOLVED] » 2018-04-30 22:02:33

@Ron . . . Not that it would make a difference but are you aware that sudo is not enabled by default in Devuan?  Either add it to sudoers or su + root pw to get root permissions

#2679 Re: Devuan » Will Devuan ever stop being based on Debian? » 2018-04-30 21:11:57

At some point we may have to clone the debian repos onto our infrastructure to preserve them from further systemd intrusion.  Then we would be independent from debian.  But pulling that off would require an influx of volunteers with ninja skills to handle the workload of keeping packages from upstream current.

#2680 Re: Devuan Derivatives » [Miyo] Kernel questions » 2018-04-30 18:28:24

No, never use Debian repos directly.  The backports repo is available via devuan at:

http://pkgmaster.devuan.org/merged/ jessie-backports main contrib non-free

or

http://auto.devuan.org/merged/ jessie-backports main contrib non-free

As to Mint . . . it is NOT recommended to mix Devuan repos even with other Debian derivatives.  It could put you into a whole world of hurt.  If you do try that, backup first and check dependency versions against those available in Devuan.  Then cross your fingers and recite the appropriate incantations.

Welcome back mlsmith.  We have missed you!!

I think you're describing "auto login".  In the the config file of your dm (whatever that is) there should be an option to toggle yes/no.  I think there is even an option to set that during installation but I don't do that often enough to be sure.

Exactly.   #devuan-arm (ping parazyd) and https://git.devuan.org/sdk/arm-sdk/issues/ are excellent places to catch his attention.

Not too dry but a little sexist.  wink

The *kit backends are not fully sorted in ascii. This post should point you in the right direction:

I guess I am going to have to email parazyd.

That or freenode #devuan-arm

What do I know?  In any case, the sym link points to something that isn't there.  (:>)

This is what's in the script.

/home/parazyd/arm-sdk/

You might like to know that parazyd builds all of the arm stuff.

Debian is already a great distribution in itself. So, there's no need to modify anything about it, in my opinion (besides removing the systemd component).

It is obvious you have no idea what 'removing the systemd component' involves.   More grandiose, empty 'opinions' from the gnat that keeps buzzing in our ears . . .

. . . a revised, libre-oriented installer.

There has been talk recently (not related the current rants which most of the devs won't even see) about Devuan releasing a 'Libre' version possibly for Ascii in addition to what is now offered.  The various components are scattered here and there.  Just need to be collected and glued together.  Unfortunately, most of us lack the skills to help with that so it remains on the to-do list . . .

#2693 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Any Devuan-based distros that use Debian's original installer? » 2018-04-17 17:33:39

Geesh . . . I was just trying to help but that will likely be the last time.

Just something to think about . . . very few things in this world are under our 'control'.  The control that we do have  is in the mind that perceives the uncontrollable.   There is truth in what you say but it has taken you down quite a rabbit hole.  Please stop trying to pull us in with you.  Wasted bits and bytes . . .

These have been done for some time but not yet been packaged for ascii.   Hopefully this weekend.  Enjoy if the color suits you! https://dev1galaxy.org/files/DarkPurpy-links.tar.gz

Here's a suggestion . . . do you know that devuan has no-systemd version of tails?

https://heads.dyne.org/about.html

That might suit you perfectly.

You do like to chew on a dry bone, don't you.  No need to keep repeating yourself in 101 variations.
