Is there somewhere a hidden set of installation images of Beowulf around? Can't find anything in the official repositories. I tried an update on ASCII in a VM and got it busted, doesn't work. Would like to try a native installation, an alpha would be ok.
Thanks, Rolf

@rolfie . . . there are installer-i386 and installer-amd64 mini.isos here:
https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/devuan/dists/beowulf/main/
Drill down to "netboot". There is an option NOT to merge usr in the expert install. Uses Debian softwave graphics so be prepared.

I attempted an install using mini.iso (from netboot) recently and encountered an error during the install, something about kernel mismatch. The error was serious as presented, that the resulting install may not boot. And sure enough; the installed os would not boot. i have to apologize for lack of details, as I quickly moved on and just installed the normal Devuan netinst.iso. -- Just a heads up, hopefully you wont encounter this.
What I ended up doing was installing ascii netinst.iso, keeping the install minimal- no desktop. Then immediately upon 1st boot upgrading to beowulf. This worked well and should go smooth now that the polkit/policykit issues have been resolve.

The mini.iso is considered "experimental" - ceres is in the sources.list - so breakage can be expected. The i386 mini.iso installed for me in Decmber in VB but then I had trouble after an upgrade because of policykit stuff which I think is now fixed. The approach that dxrobertson took is the safest way to get to beowulf but if you do it that way, I think you will get a merged usr which might not be desirable in some situations.

Wait! There IS an iso image for Beowulf? O_o
And I went through installing ASCII and then upgrading with apt... XD

The mini.iso is for TESTING. There were changes made to the installer including additional questions during the process. There were calls for testing those changes on the ML.

I have obviously missed it... I am new here, and using Devuan just a couple of days now, still figuring it out.
What is ML, btw?

Keep in mind that the mini.iso is not ready for prime time so YMMV.

Thank you! :-)
Of course, mailing list! XD It was VERY late in the night, approaching morning, I had to sleep. :-D

I understand that. For now, I am fine with what I have ATM. Seems stable enough.

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a try. Is it correct that the image is dated something like April 18?
Apart from that the further discussion left me behind. Too may acronyms like XD, ML, YMMV, ATM.
Well, meanwhile used the duck to look up what that means and got the explanations now, but the first reading was just causing ?????

No! You want the one dated December 31, 2018. Note that both files have the same name. You need to rename one or keep them in separate directories.

Greetings All...
Finally moved in & unpacked enough to visit!
An image for beowulf! You Dev's rock.
I went for fsmithred's advice, dated December 31, 2018, and got the same error...

No kernel modules found. Using ca & us mirrors.
No disk drives found. Aborted attempt for now, since I can't get passed that!

That sounds easier then my past upgrades
Gonna install on spare partition.

Same with me, German mirror, non EFI expert install, tried all 3 offered distribtions ASCII, Beowulf, Ceres, all the same.
Regards, Rolf
Addendum: also the image dated April 18 shows the same kernel modules error.

Try it again - the installer was just rebuilt.

Thanks, that rebuilt works, got a working Beowulf CLI interface.
Tried to manually setup my Mate with lightdm, there I am stuck, can't enter username/password during login. Different topic though.
Thanks, Rolf

Thx fsmithred! I cruized right thru the expert install (tho, I'm no expert--jus` like that process ).
Now off to the ML to find that test request, and see if I can assist.

I was just reading this topic and decided to try devuan/beowulf on this older HP Pavilion a1777c.
~$ uname -a
Linux devuan 4.19.0-2-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 4.19.16-1 (2019-01-17) i686 GNU/Linux
~$ free
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 3546396 587544 1929248 114972 1029604 2489612
Swap: 7811068 0 7811068
I am new to the forum, but wanted to post that installation went smoothly and I'm up and running. So far, devuan looks promising on this old hardware. Right now, I'm using Midori on icewm.
Thank you devs for all your work.

Any news about iso for testing?
Soon. We're working on making good isos.
Meanwhile, some of the derivative distros have beowulf-based isos.
