Debian really needs a better system.
Yikes!! There's actually no real peer to Debian packaging. I guess you mean better than itself?

The ongoing trend of raging against the machine and devolving into politics continues, rather than learning how things actually work and *shock* configuring your stuff directly or *horror* doing some entry-level shell scripting.
I do love solving problems with small shell-scripts, they may be small but they are powerful as hell.

Xfce may be on the chopping block
Do you mean just for Devuan and/or Debian? 4.20 just came out and I've managed to get most of it working on Wayland in Ubuntu 24 on kernel 6.14. Missing functionality can for the most part be triaged in labwc with rc.xml configurations.

Gimp works fine for me on Linux, BSD & Windows 10. Use export as: command. You can do bulk conversions too with a python script though I haven't tried that. My main usage is for league score sheets .heic images I receive from other players via email.

Text files are great for small note taking but for me I often need large files of information i/e technical stuff while on various sites out of the office and readable by different OS bases. My important notes, years of them actually, are all written in plain .html. That way any browser on any OS with an Internet connection can read them remotely from my office web/data server. No download security checks, connection configuring, overloaded disks, software incompatibility issues, etc. AI is going to replace me anyway so in the meantime I might as well make it as easy on myself as possible.

I've recently broke up with my gf and it feels like hell.
"What disturbs and depresses young people is the hunt for happiness on the firm assumption that it must be met with in life." Schopenhauer
reminded of:
"It is surely a koan for this age: the whether or not to share the rusty needle and the morphine with Tristessa. Nations are only people in literary thrall; and as such, like the fabric of the universe, unavoidably autobiographical. They cannot rest then on any apocalyptic hope of indehiscence; for they are relentlessly written not toward any blankly vain and blustered emptiness, but rather toward humility. There a patriot's hope is renewed..."
I thought I was prepared for the death of someone I’d loved for more than half a century. I wasn’t.
"The pain I feel now is the happiness I had before. That is the deal." C S Lewis
mmm the life coach center is two doors down to the left ...
"Ivan cried, "Let me tell you, novice, that the absurd is only too necessary on earth. The world stands on absurdities, and perhaps nothing would have come to pass in it without them. We know what we know!" "I understand nothing," Ivan went on, as though in delirium. "I don't want to understand anything now. I want to stick to the fact. I made up my mind long ago not to understand. If I try to understand anything, I shall be false to the fact, and I have determined to stick to the fact." Dostoevsky
where people we care about don't feel safe
The same old story. Regardless of how anyone takes this statement ordinary grown ups are meant to take care of themselves. Elitist parentism is always unnatural and ineffective and far outside any realm of truth. Debian's decision is either based on politics or business, not this ridiculous virtue signalling statement.

LO adds a byte order mark unless the file is saved in a specific (UTF-8 without BOM) context. Been that way for a long long time, mostly to accomodate calc and db csv usage files. Running as root has nothing to do with the problem. In the future if you continue to run root for editing just use a root terminal and nano for conf files as the save routine in LO writer is annoying anyway.

T. S. Eliot was a seriously confused and rather unoriginal writer compared to Kipling, Conrad, Lawrence, Graves, Yeats, and even Joyce. However, it remains to be seen whether or not deathless feet will dance over the graves of fools and poets.

Calibre coupled with a hardware ISBN scanner should work.

“Just as one spoils the stomach by overfeeding and thereby impairs the whole body, so can one overload and choke the mind by giving it too much nourishment. For the more one reads the fewer are the traces left of what one has read; the mind is like a tablet that has been written over and over. Hence it is impossible to reflect; and it is only by reflection that one can assimilate what one has read. If one reads straight ahead without pondering over it later, what has been read does not take root, but is for the most part lost.” a little Schopenhauer
AI will certainly eat itself because it can't naturally forget, and that will set human progress back hundreds of years in the end. There is no kindness in ambition. I wish I owned a coal mine.

I strongly dislike avahi
Pretty much a modern neccessity for a lot of networking functions.
You can try the live image GhostBSD
A good choice for people who have never run BSD. I've been testing it for about two months now and have found no particular problems with it, at least nothing important other than the normal known imitations of BSD. I recommend it if you want to tinker with BSD.
As far as minimalism: installers should all offer it, but then everyone would complain about how long it took to install a new full DE system, and updaters would have to be rewritten for every DE. Might as well be Arch then.
For me open-box wm written with lua coded hooked display options would make for a very simple but easily customizable desktiop. Right now Linux is suffering from hardware overdose, and free software is facing a difficult choice. Will AI take over development or not. Both choices are ominous. It's hard to tell if we are going backwards or forwards.

A young man was seated next to a pretty young woman on an airplane. He was quite attracted to her and struck up a conversation with her. After a while he asked her what kind of man she was attracted to.
"In all honesty" she replied thoughtfully, "I'm really attracted to Native American men especially with long dark hair... and I also think Jewish men are very sexy espcially the intellectual ones, and I admit to having a weakness for the long haired redneck type especially the ones with a Texas accent... oh and by the way my name is Lucy.
The young man paused moment and then replied extending his hand to hers, "It's very mice to meet you Lucy. My name is Geronimo Steinberg, but my friends just call me Bubba.

My first wife was Sicilian. My second wife was Greek. People used to say our toddlers smelled like lasagna. The house smelled like an Italian restaraunt and my Borican friends always got hungry and ate leftovers while there.

On a laptop both batteries must be removed, if there is also a coin cell CMOS battery, and you must be disconnected from any AC power source. After doing so hold down the power on button briefly and it will drain the board capacitors and BIOS will reset to default in most cases.

The approach for a well-designed proprietary distro may not be around yet, but think LMDE is close
Any Linux distro that can provide a unique core system to build on and an OEM multiple use installer is saleable. (RHEL & SUSE EL) LMDE is mostly maintained for quality assurance of Mint's main Ubuntu based system. If Ubuntu goes proprietary expect it to go immutable as well, which would eliminate Ubuntu based distros.

An old man decided to go fishing.
On the edge of the pond a frog spoke to him from a lily pad, "Kiss me and I'll turn into a beautiful princess."
The old man thought for minute then held out his hand.
The frog swam over and jumped up into his hand.
He looked at the frog a minute then stuffed it into his pocket.
The frog protested from his pocket, "C'mon old man. What's the matter? I thought you were going to kiss me?"
The old man replied, " I thought about it... but at my age I could use a talking frog a lot more than a princess."

“In the name of the Lord,” humanity has killed more people than for other reasons
Fantasy fallacy. Conquests and genocides by monotheistic peoples are simply the most historically documented and not necessarily the worst or most in history, and in fact more likely not to be. Humans have always slaughtered each other and the worst of these examples are far more likely to be uncivilized and illiterate and thus historically undocumented. Saving the stone age is no way forward for civilized humans. There is no innocence there.

If you search for a non-systemd Linux OS on distrowatch MX Linux is at the top of the list and several others are listed before Devuan. Seems out of whack to me. Devuan should at least be first or second.

Does the board have a separate coin cell battery? Put a new one in if it does. CR2032 is the most common.
