[solved] Ascii - OpenRC - Dependency messages

Hi Forum,

I just started to see these messages upon boot, nothing seems to be wrong or not working but wondering why? Possibly something i have installed but not sure what it would be. I notice in rc.conf these messages can be turned off, i have also enabled boot logging.  Ive also seen in the first code block below come up when i installed inxi and bootlogd the last two programs i installed today.

Re: [solved] Ascii - OpenRC - Dependency messages

Ok so i thought i would try commenting out below lines in rc.conf, system still operating ok but presented with an error on boot.

# Comment this line to disable dependency loop solver
rc_loopsolver_enable="YES"

# Comment this line to disable warnings about dependency loops
rc_loopsolver_warnings="YES"

So now this happened:

* ERROR: cannot start mountall-bootclean.sh as checkroot-bootclean.sh would not start

Upon investigation that checkroot script cleans /tmp/ and /run/ when booting.

Its probably very trivial and not really worth worrying about but just thought i would post this up. I would like that script to work again but unsure how to proceed.

Re: [solved] Ascii - OpenRC - Dependency messages

I don't know what most of that output means, but probably reversing the changes you made should let that script work again - just uncomment those lines you commented.

Also (off-topic) unless you're sure you need it, I'd recommend removing live-tools. AFAIK, the only thing it does is get in the way of running update-initramfs.

Re: [solved] Ascii - OpenRC - Dependency messages

Yes reversing the changes made the difference and so did uninstalling live-tools.

Is live-tools part of refractasnapshot-base or refractainstaller-base ?, because i downloaded those before these messages started appearing, maybe they dont play well with openrc. I did try once refractasnapshot to create a live iso of my system but when i tried booting it up on usb it got stuck at initramfs and as i am a novice was unsure how to proceed, but anyway that is going off topic, ill give another try with refractasnapshot another day. Ill mark this thread solved, cheers.

Re: [solved] Ascii - OpenRC - Dependency messages

Refractasnapshot and installer depend on live-config, live-boot, live-boot-initramfs-tools and live-config-sysvinit. They do not require or use live-tools. Something pulled in that package, and at the moment, I can't recall what it is.

I've made snapshots with openrc in the past with TriOS and more recently with devuan ascii. It works. If you have trouble with it next time, start a new thread and we'll get it sorted..
