Nvidia drivers, installation failure.

Hi!!!  :-)

I have an older (legacy) Geforce 710 card and the repo installer informed me, that is no longer available.

I tried installing Nvidia's own drivers, but it failed.
After shutting down X Server, disabling Nouveau and installing kernel headers, I ran the installer but it failed with errors like:

error: #error wait_on_bit_lock() conftest failed!

What now?
Do I have to rollback to Nouveau?
TIA!!!  :-)

The entire log is way too long, for posting it here.
I can always post it elsewhere, if needed.

Re: Nvidia drivers, installation failure.

what is the output of:

lspci|grep VGA

with regards to:

Which drivers did you try to install exactly?

And which version of Devuan are you using?

Re: Nvidia drivers, installation failure.

last time i checked , the driver was active (the card is nviidia 710 passive gpu) , for devuan 6, but it needs manualy patching that was shared on via reddit page (how to nvidia xyz on debian 13)
and the guide need at bit of adaptation for newer kernel probably , it is written in french site, but it can function.

if it worth it, another topic ; but wanted to find out, and glad it has been shown how to do it.

@tux_99:

>nvidia-detect
Detected NVIDIA GPUs:

Checking card: NVIDIA Corporation GK208B [GeForce GT 710] (rev a1)
Your card is only supported by the Tesla 470 drivers series, which is only available up to bookworm.

So...no luck installing from repos.
I tried installing the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-470.256.02.run installer from Nvidia.

Re: Nvidia drivers, installation failure.

Yes, since it's a Kepler card the newest driver you can use is 470.256.02 but that driver isn't compatible with the kernel of Devuan 6, at least not without modifications.

But you could try this:
A guide to installing Nvidia 470 drivers on Debian 13 Trixie
https://www.reddit.com/r/debian/comment … rivers_on/

I haven't tried that so proceed with caution at your own risk. Maybe let us know if it works or not.

Re: Nvidia drivers, installation failure.

Yeah, it worked for me (at least the x64 bit).  :-)
Here's the link: https://www.microlinux.fr/blog/nvidia470-debian13/
(The Google translation, is really handy here).

In order to install the x32 compatibility layer, the author gives these commands:

# systemctl set-default multi-user.target
# systemctl isolate multi-user.target

How can we issue them, at our own system (Devuan)?
I know nothing about systemd!  :-)

Re: Nvidia drivers, installation failure.

The systemctl commands can be ignorered, I guess.

Are you aware, that 32 bit libraries are usually not needed?
Most common exception is wine.

Anyway.
If you want that: Is "i386" architecture enabled?

Re: Nvidia drivers, installation failure.

It is already enabled.

>dpkg --print-foreign-architectures
i386

OK, it is not that important.
Only useful for Wine, Steam and such (if someone still uses them).
