I've just use NetInstall to install Devuan on a newer machine. That worked fine, and I chose both XFCE and Cinnamon in the NetInstall options. Default logon is booting into XFCE, no problem. But if I press F1 before logon and choose Cinnamon, the logon then shows me a completely blank screen. Did I miss or forget something? Or does Cinnamon need reinstalling?

you could do "sudo tasksel" and install from within xfce4 the cinnamon; maybe it got mixed up, and is missing some items; so you could clear it for you. with dual or more GUI things tend to becom messy, sometimes, unfortunately.

Which version of devuan - daedalus (oldstable), excalibur (stable), freia (testing)?

@rbit - It was from this ISO
devuan_excalibur_6.1.1_amd64_netinstall

I've just run sudo tasksel. It showed both XFCE and Cinnamon with "*" - which might just be a relic of what I selected during net install. I will try unstarring XFCE and just (re)install Cinnamon.

That did the trick. Now replying inside a Cinnamon session.
Thanks to @kapqa for "sudo tasksel".
