I am trying a new install on a computer, using LXDE, Alsa and only internal sound card to try to get midi over web to work with a hifi setup of Alsa.
$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xfc080000 irq 80
1 [Generic ]: HDA-Intel - HD-Audio Generic
HD-Audio Generic at 0xfc540000 irq 81I have created an ~/.asoundrc file with the following contents:
$ cat ~/.asoundrc
defaults.pcm.!card Generic
defaults.ctl.!card Genericwhich at this time works with midi over web. How do I find out which of the /usr/share/alsa/ucm2/Intel/ HiFi.conf files to use?

Are you able to copy and paste half a dozen commands into the terminal in the correct order without missing any?

It seems to be a real challenge for many Devuan users.
fftrate is easy to compile and easy to use.
How to compile fftrate:

Scroll to the blue line: How to compile Petrov's fftrate ALSA plugin on Devuan 5 Daedalus
(It works for Devuan Excalibur.)
How to install "stream editor":
sudo apt install sedUser manual:

Igor, how does installing fftrate have anything at all to do with the OP's question?
https://sourceforge.net/projects/vuu-do/ New Vuu-do isos uploaded December 2025!
Vuu-do GNU/Linux, minimal Devuan-based Openbox and Mate systems to build on. Also a max version for OB.
Devuan 5 mate-mini iso, pure Devuan, 100% no-vuu-do.
Devuan 6 version also available for testing.

OK, I will check it out. However, it should be noted that I again have the problem after a restart, where all of the audio output (speaker test, youtube, etc.) functions properly (with the correct sound card), but midi over web has stopped working - again. This is before any changes in the quality of output have been made.

@ greenjeans From the related thread, it looks to me as an attempt to bypass the current Alsa patches from the install. As a point of reference, it can't be any worse than my current experiences with Alsa, and the semi functional Pipewire.

If "HiFi" means 192kHz 32-bit audio, then fftrate is a viable option. It supports high-resolution formats, including DXD (24-bit 352.8kHz), and provides high-quality real-time resampling via FFT, making it suitable for bit-perfect playback on compatible hardware like Intel HDA codecs.
