I have just tried to look in the Debian User Forum ( forums.user.net ) and all I get is a screen "Making sure you're not a bot!" Nothing else happens and the "Login" link there just refreshes the same screen. Must admit it has been a while since I last visited it and I'm using an old PC because my normal one is being rebuilt - in fact it was for advice about that I was going there for.
Related to that, there used to be a debianuserforums.org but that now gives me "403 Forbidden". Is it defunct now?

My findings:
Debian User Forum: forums.user.net page not found, what works is https://forums.debian.net/. Attention: Anti-bot software in place.
debianuserforums.org: 403, unsafe, probably certificate outdated.

I'm using forums.debian.net... it seems available but different. (I haven't noticed before that the header includes "Debian Fish and Animal Emporium", whatever that means.)
EDIT: apparently an April 1 joke that was so hilarious for the admins that it has remained. "Fun" is something subjective, obviously.

@rolfie : forums.debian.net takes me to the same anti-bot screen and nothing more happens. Maybe because I'm using an ancient Windows 7 laptop FTTB.

why they would start nameing it Debian Fish and Enimal Emporium is beyond me.
on Ubuntu they had "rehaul" and apparently at the mometn they conclude the threads that have recceived no more post after 29 dys or so.

Anti-bot software in place
#1 Post by donald » 2025-10-27 00:44
Hello Everyone,We are attempting to up the ante in our battle with the botnets, expansive AI crawlers and scrapers which tend to slow the forum down to unreasonable connections (I.E. Members and Guests cannot even see the forum).
Guest Views:
Last week we took the step of limiting guest views which did slow down hits on the attack surface, unfortunately this requires complete viewing of threads limited to registered members or new members.Bot Protection:
This week we are trying out Anubis which is an open source web firewall that uses cookies and a combination of heuristics to weigh a valid user connection versus a crawler or bot. This adds another step to the viewing of the forum but not to the logon progress. There are 2 versions of the software, we are trying version I this week and the next week with refinements the other versionThe software will run for a few days.
Notes:
If you are having login issues, allow the forums to set a cookie in your browser as an exception.Feedback:
We will look at the logs to see if this additional step is obstructing members, if you are able to get past the system as a human, a 'hello' in this thread will provide valuable feedback.Thank you,
Donald
haven't researched this yet but there might be a non-javascript-required version?

Hazy memory.. now long defunct, the alternative Debian forum (~Etch or Lenny?) set up by banned and/or disgruntled users in response to mainstream forum censorship..

Donald is doing a great job of deterring anyone of above average intellect from visiting the site - he should be welcoming bots, not excluding them...
debianuserforums.org has been gone for years now.
