Down detector sees the main page up and running, but my packet manager can't access the pages and also can't access thru firefox.
So, I can't update my programs..
Location Finland.
Repo that can't be reached are:
http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus main etc.
Is there alternative repositories to try or any ideas to check the availability other ways than from down detector and thru firefox?

Known issue with some Internet Service Providers and DNS, there are some workarounds for some folks posted in various threads, in some cases changing router settings may work.
Alternate solution is to choose a different mirror in your /etc/apt/sources.list file.
Do a forum search on this issue and you'll find several threads about it. I'm using a different mirror (gnlug) and it's working fine for me.
deb http://gnlug.org/pub/devuan/merged/ daedalus main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
deb http://gnlug.org/pub/devuan/merged/ daedalus-updates main
deb http://gnlug.org/pub/devuan/merged/ daedalus-security main

Thanks for this, got it working, but only 20-40kb/s
Is there a list of alternative update/software package repo mirror sites somewhere?
The ones I found by doing a search only included installation files or are they the same repos, but have hidden folders in the repo folder tree??
Sorry for being a little newbie with linux..

Look at the top of the forum page, there is a link to Devuan.org, and read the Packages page.

Thanks, found them. 😎

you can get mirror urls from https://www.devuan.org/get-devuan
if you don't feel like editing apt sources manually you can use https://github.com/eylles/devuan-script … mirrors.sh which is not really automatic but it allows you to simply put the bare urls inside a config file and let the script do the rest.

I tried to install devuan yesterday and it hung my system twice trying to use the default mirror. When I changed mirrors it installed but told me it had commented out some entries in the sources.list file. Looks like it only commented out the security but even that is big concern.
Later I was on the web and tried to use the install scripts from firefox, brave and librewolf. All of them wouldn't install because it said it needed use stable instead of daedalus.
As a potential new user I'm really concerned about this. The repository is supposed to be a strong point of Debian-based distros. Knowing that you have to fiddle with things just to install software doesn't instill confidence in me for this distro.
I may give it another shot today, however, since the concept of no systemD is very appealing.

Nothing should be commented out in a Daedalus sources.list, it isn't neccessary. It should look like this:
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ daedalus main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ daedalus-security main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ daedalus-updates main contrib non-free
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ daedalus-backports main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
I am using the recommended default. It works to about 99.9% for me. If you run into problems, replace deb.devuan.org with a suitable mirror.
Later I was on the web and tried to use the install scripts from firefox, brave and librewolf. All of them wouldn't install because it said it needed use stable instead of daedalus.
I am pretty sure dedicated install scripts for Debian will fail when they read a Daedalus sources.list. None of them will consider Devuan and like, they are written for stock Debian. No Devuan problem in itself. You have to do the installation manually. Read the instructions on the web pages and adapt the descriptions to Devuan Daedalus.
I run the Firefox ESR from the Mozilla website directly. Nowadays there is a deb package also.

rolfie - thanks for the quick response.
I agree nothing should be commented out but there were two lines commented out. This was one and the other was the deb-src:
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-security main non-free-firmware
The line above both said:
# Line commented out by installer because it failed to verify:
I uncommented the line and added us. giving me:
deb http://us.deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-security main non-free-firmware
I then did an update and I had 31 new packages so it looks like everything is working. I also purged firefox-esr and installed firefox, librewolf, brave, and floorp from their web sites using the instructions for Debian. I had no problem with those installs using the Debian scripts without modification.
