[SOLVED] Refracta ISO: no keyboard and mouse

Hello,
I created an ISO with Refracta Snapshot and transferred it to the USB stick with dd. Since the copied system is set to de_DE, I also set the first boot menu entry to de_DE in /usr/lib/refractasnapshot/iso/isolinux/live.cfg.
The live system starts from the stick and the keyboard works in the Grub menu. However, neither the keyboard nor the mouse can be used in graphics mode.
What could that be about? Hardware is identical. System is daedalus, upgraded from chimaera.

Re: [SOLVED] Refracta ISO: no keyboard and mouse

Is libinput missing in the iso? In daedalus I have libinput-bin libinput10 xserver-xorg-input-libinput. I also have libevdev2 but I'm not sure if that's needed. Aptitude tells me it's there for atril.

Check the boot command to make sure it says what you want it to say. Press TAB or e at the boot menu (for isolinux or grub respectively). The menu in /usr/lib/refractasnapshot gets edited by the script when you make the snapshot.

Re: [SOLVED] Refracta ISO: no keyboard and mouse

Thanks for the reply.
The libs mentioned are all available. Boot Menu: An error occurs while checking the boot command. After calling up an entry with TAB, it appears twice below. When attempting to edit it, further repetitions of the command appear, editing impossible. You come back with ESC. This behavior occurs with all boot menu entries.
I still have a working USB stick with chimaera. At that time I also changed the first boot menu entry to de_DE. This stick works and boot commands can also be edited there. If I compare the generated live.cfg files on both USB sticks, they are readable, then I don't see any differences apart from the distro name.
By the way, the line with the reference to TAB and e is also missing at the bottom of the incorrect boot menu. Where is the mistake?

Re: [SOLVED] Refracta ISO: no keyboard and mouse

I've seen the repeating lines when editing the boot command in the past, but I'm not seeing it with the daedalus desktop-live. I'm not sure what causes that.

I do see the help line that says to use TAB or e to edit.

I have no other ideas right now.

Re: [SOLVED] Refracta ISO: no keyboard and mouse

Hello
I suspected that the Daedalus system created via the upgrade from Chimaera was causing the error somewhere. I'm not concerned with a backup, but with having a customized (programs, appearance) live system to install. That's why I invested some time, downloaded the daedalus-desktop.iso, installed it instead of the upgrade and customized it.
Now I have a new problem:
refracta-snapshot ends where mksquasfs should start. The data is present in the work/iso/isolinux and work/iso/live folders, as is the file system in the work/myfs folder.
sqashfstools, genisoimage and resolfconf are installed. There is no error message, the .conf is unchanged.
What can be the cause of this error?

Re: [SOLVED] Refracta ISO: no keyboard and mouse

The usual cause of failure around squashing is to run out of disk space. This will be reported at the end of the error log.

Uh, why genisoimage? If you're using a version of refractasnapshot that wants genisoimage, you should replace it with a current version (10.2 or later). It should be using xorriso to make the iso file.

Re: [SOLVED] Refracta ISO: no keyboard and mouse

After a comparison, I installed zip and dpkg-repack and tried again. Here are the last lines of the refractasnapshot.log:

gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
cpio: Vorzeitiges Ende des Archivs
+ exit_code=2
+ '[' 2 -ne 0 ']'
+ cpio -i
cpio: kernel/x86/microcode/AuthenticAMD.bin nicht erzeugt: Neuere oder gleich alte Version existiert schon
151 Blöcke
+ xzcat
+ cpio -i
xzcat: (stdin): Dateiformat nicht erkannt
cpio: Vorzeitiges Ende des Archivs
+ exit_code=2
+ '[' 2 -ne 0 ']'
+ echo 'Decompression error'
+ exit 1

genisoimage was wrong, xorriso is used
Thanks for the help, beautiful Sunday

Re: [SOLVED] Refracta ISO: no keyboard and mouse

There are two ways to solve this. You could remove the microcode package before making the snapshot. That should eliminate the decompression error.

The other solution is to use the newer version of refractasnapshot that fixes the decompression bug. It's currently in ceres/excalibur but you can download it here. It will work on daedalus or chimaera (maybe beowulf, too).
https://pkgmaster.devuan.org/devuan/poo … .0_all.deb

And the gui version (optional)

hallo fsmithred
Installing the new snapshot package alone was not enough. I also had to remove the microcode package. Now it creates the ISO!
Thanks again

Re: [SOLVED] Refracta ISO: no keyboard and mouse

Hello,
the problem with the TAB for editing e.g. language (#4) can be solved by changing the stdmenu.cfg (see /usr/lib/refractasnapshot/iso/isolinux). Could be, that the problem appears with debian based snapshots (devuan based seems to b no problem according fsmithred). My idea was, to check the stdmenu.cfg of debian and there are some changes. I changed the refractasnapshot stdmenu.cfg with these debian entries (all other entries concerning the menu color are unchanged):

menu vshift 8
menu rows 12
menu helpmsgrow 14
menu cmdlinerow 16
menu timeoutrow 16
menu tabmsgrow 18
menu tabmsg Press ENTER to boot or TAB to edit a menu entry

After running refractasnapshot with these changes in stdmenu.cfg, editing seems to be o.k. I've used the newest refractasnapshot from the devuan pool (fsmithred's link). Hope, that helps, but not sure.
