Repository deb.devuan.org not accepted by Discover

When I try to launch Discover, I get the message that the repository (deb.devuan.org) installed by a Daedalus installer isn't available.  The message is quite complicated and I can't work out what to do.

The best mirror for me to use seems to be https://mirrors.ocf.berkeley.edu/devuan … pool/main/

What shall I do?

Re: Repository deb.devuan.org not accepted by Discover

I do not know what Discover is, but it is lying to you (or your ISP has misconfigured BGP - mine is Virgin Media & they recently did that to me for dev1galaxy.org + devuan.org).

What results do you get on an apt update?

Re: Repository deb.devuan.org not accepted by Discover

Hi, I wonder ... what entries exit in /etc/apt/sources.list

I find that usually there is just one uncommented line referring to a dvd/cd-rom drive...

And I have to re-populate the file with repo entries that work.

I have not been able to utilise kde/plasma's Discover to upgrade or install packages either due to permissions or repo being unreachable. So, I gave up trying to use it.

For a graphical package installer I use synaptic, for the command line I use nala, but also use apt frequently, for daily updates check.

I haven't tried the Berkley mirrors, but my Daedalus lines in

/etc/apt/sources.list look like this...

## daedalus
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ daedalus main non-free contrib non-free-firmware
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ daedalus-security main non-free contrib non-free-firmware
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ daedalus-updates main non-free contrib non-free-firmware
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ daedalus-backports main non-free contrib non-free-firmware
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged/ daedalus-proposed-updates main non-free contrib non-free-firmware

I hope this info helps you, regards Glenn

Re: Repository deb.devuan.org not accepted by Discover

Thanks for the replies.  It occurred to me later that Discover is a KDE app.  I removed it on my other OS and I will remove it on Devuan as soon as I find out how to do that.

From the following message it seems that /etc/apt/sources.list refers to a cd drive even though the OS is on my 64 bit computer.

E: The repository 'cdrom://[Devuan GNU/Linux 5.0.1 daedalus amd64 - desktop 20230914] daedalus Release' does not have a Release file.
W: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
W: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
E: cdrom://[Devuan GNU/Linux 5.0.1 daedalus amd64 - desktop 20230914] daedalus Release is not (yet) available (Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs)

I have tried to use apt-get install to install two packages which I know are in the Debian repository and in each case the package could not be found.  It seems I need to amend sources.list.  Thank you, GlennW, for the lines I need for that file.  Synaptic is not installed and I will install it as soon as I know how to do that on Devuan.

Re: Repository deb.devuan.org not accepted by Discover

Simply edit the file, as root.

also comment the cdrom line with a # at the beginning so it won't be used.

Then as root and run apt update from the konsole, or terminal...

Re: Repository deb.devuan.org not accepted by Discover

The problem is we don't have an AppStream repository like Debian does. AppStream is what holds all the fancy metadata showing the icons, screenshots, and info in software centers like Discover or GNOME Software. You can fix it by doing what Konna (post #12) said here.
