I am complete linux newbie and tried to install HP laserjet M1212nf MFP multifunction printer to latest Daedalus.
I have installed HPLip and Gui thru packet manager.
lsusb finds usb printer, but HPLip GUI settings doesn't find it and loops back to start menu.
HP says HPLip supports printer fully. There is manual find, but do not know what kind of string/form write to slot from lsusb data..
Any tips forward on troubleshooting?
Feels like HPLip GUI is broken, because find printer next choice returns to start menu without comments.

Maybe worth a go:

Try adding system-config-printer.

No GUI needed.
Connect the printer, turn on the network, run hp-setup.
It will find the printer firmware on the HP website and install it.
Log in to the cups interface by entering localhost:631 into the browser line and add a printer.
Then my printer is ready to go.

Thanks for help all. Got printing working.
system-config-printer was allready installed.
Accidentially powered on the printer after usb was connected first and hplip setup popped up. Wen't like aluma said after that.
Also added the printer then from GUI setup and test page/scan review were succesfull.
Thank you all for the fast help.

The main thing is that everything works.
For HP you need to install the firmware and add it to the system for cups. HP GUI had and probably has not yet completely gotten rid of errors after moving from python from version 2 to 3.
You can add to the system both from hp-setup and from the cups web interface. In any case, it won’t hurt to look at its settings after adding the printer.
system-config-printer is just a configurator add-on; you just need to open the cups interface once and it is not needed.
