make desktop looks like windows 11

Guys,

i know it sounds like swearing in a church,

but..

do you think i can run this script? It's compatible with Debian 10 "Buster" - Debian 11 "Bullseye"

Re: make desktop looks like windows 11

You should never run shell scripts without first knowing what they do (reviewing the code). With that said, this seems to be harmless. I did notice that this requires Cinnamon. Is that what you're using for a desktop environment?

I'm gonna check it out, i'll let you know if it worked for further generations who stumble upon this post.

Re: make desktop looks like windows 11

I have to ask - why do you want it to look like MS Windows?

Lots of people seem to think that if they make it look the same, it will act the same.......wrong! big_smile

Re: make desktop looks like windows 11

There are several Windows-styled themes at https://b00merang-project.github.io/windows - though their Windows 11 one is "coming soon".

The Windows 10 one is supported on:

Any GTK-based desktop
Cinnamon
Gnome
LXDE/Openbox
MATE
Xfce

Installation appears to be download a zip file and extract to a folder (though of course one should still check there are no unexpected files in such an archive).

Re: make desktop looks like windows 11

I looked at that script. It seems to install deb packages from various sources, including Ubuntu. I don't see anything good in that. It is better not to use it.

If you have Cinnamon then there an option Menu>Preferences>System Info that will tell you about your system.

Also in a console/terminal you can run neofetch, or for absolutely everything inxi -F (if not already installed both come in packages with the same names).

On my system neofetch provides this:

marjorie@grendel:~$ neofetch

Well,  it started in 1998 with only 1 PC so for configuring my network card i needed internet. For more information.  Then in 2008 i gave it another try,  then i needed extra packages to show a volume icon in the system tray.

Now since 2 years I'm running Linux fx and i could do anything i need.

But then some guys said: you need to run devuan,  it's more secure. I thought,  okey.... but with the desktop I'm back in the stone age.

Re: make desktop looks like windows 11

I see, but you do know that there are lots of different looking desktop environments available, just a quick apt-get install away..... wink

Then you can configure most to your own idea of perfection..... big_smile

So, welcome to freedom for you & your computer... smile

That's precisely what I like about Xfce. wink

Re: make desktop looks like windows 11

The script didn't work.

Thats oke. I ended up reinstalling devuan to get cinnamon in the first place

Cinamon has a theme browser with windows availible. So it's all good now.

The only thing i'm missing are the function keys of my sony laptop. Can't adjust the brightness... That's almost making me switch back.... :-) but i like to figure it out. Loving devuan

Re: make desktop looks like windows 11

XFCE isn't the stone age and to me, its still too modern.

If you want something that is over the top on an unreasonable level aka, looking like windows 11,

kde's current or cinnamon fit that bill.

Makes me feel sick inside knowing people like those bloated desktops, but not my choice.

meh...

Re: make desktop looks like windows 11

Why in God's name would you want an OS to look like Windows Metro? The goal should be the opposite: to take Flat-Design garbage and make it look more like Windows Classic/Luna/Aero.

To each their own I guess...

But either way, KDE5 and newer, GNOME 3+, CINNAMON, all do the job the OP is asking

Re: make desktop looks like windows 11

@WDstudios God, I miss the Aero era...didn't have the Fischer-price coloring of XP, but didn't have the sterile and soulless theme of windows 10 either. It had life! KDE can mimic this somewhat, with oxygen, but its still not even close to perfect....XFCE with Bluebird is a little bit better, IMO

Re: make desktop looks like windows 11

To me this is the last time KDE probably looked good:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K_Desktop … _2.2.2.png

To me this is when Gnome last looked good:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:GNOM … anager.png

XFCE:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xfce#/med … :Xfce3.jpg

I could go on and on, but I haven't used those, obviously due to getting into linux too late, but they do look nice. In my mind today, those are the last ones that looked good.

Fisher price eye candy desktop managers are ugly
