[SOLVED] Latest Daedalus 'Continue without boot loader,' gone.

Please put it back.
Today, just got a brand spanking new motherboard.
Grub catastrophically fails to install, unable to go forward or back, finish install, catastrophic.
Presently, all I can do is refractainstaller from a live, which is good.
Is there an archive of the weekly builds.

Are you saying you still have problems?

If so, which ISO are you trying to use?
Which installation choice?
Which partitioning?
etc.
What is the exact error you get?

Re: [SOLVED] Latest Daedalus 'Continue without boot loader,' gone.

Hello Ralph,

Amongst other connected storage devices, I have a 8GB 667x Compact Flash on a SATA adaptor which I /dev/urandom and /dev/zero in no time, so blank disc.

daedalus preview 20230522 amd64 netinstall

have tried online and offline

Advanced options
Expert install
Partition disks - GPT - EXT4

After Install Sysvinit,
installer main menu does not come up so I can not choose 'Continue without boot loader.'
installer attempts to install GRUB.

Running "grub-install dummy"...
[!!] Configuring shim-signed:amd64
Unable to install GRUB in dummy
Executing 'grub-install dummy failed.
This is a fatal error.
<Continue>

No way out, stuck in a loop.

The Debian Installer Bookworm RC 3 is working normally and I get the main menu 'Continue without boot loader.'

Something has changed in the daedalus preview, the preview I was using before about a week or three was ok.
Andy.

Re: [SOLVED] Latest Daedalus 'Continue without boot loader,' gone.

Did you boot legacy bios or uefi? If you did boot legacy bios, did you create a bios_grub partition?

I just tried expert install with the same iso and ran into some problems. I used gpt partition table but did not create the bios_grub partition. The installer didn't warn me about it, but I did get the window that asks if I want to install grub.

I answered No and it proceeded to ask me where I wanted grub installed. I chose "Select location" and didn't put in any location. It tried to install grub to nowhere.  (Says so in the log)

When the window came up asking me to finish, I selected Go Back. The screen flashed a few times and it came back to the finish window. I tried to go back to the menu several times, but eventually I had to choose Finish the Install.

Re: [SOLVED] Latest Daedalus 'Continue without boot loader,' gone.

Note that there is a new installer ISO collection in progress, supposedly without this bug. It's expected to be available and mirrored in about 6 hours.

TL;DR: Basically the installer building had been changed from a simple strategic design into a series of specialized steps with the aim of addressing a couple of flaws that turned up earlier this year. This turned out to be broken fixing, and it's now reverted. And it appears those packages involved have been fixed up so ideally we are back on the mains street with the installer ISOs.

Re: [SOLVED] Latest Daedalus 'Continue without boot loader,' gone.

Thank you very very much indeed fellas for the attention.

My BIOS is J3355B ASRock UEFI in big letters at the top of my display.
I always do one single partition.
I boot from rEFInd from a stick refind-flashdrive-0.12.0.zip 1992kB

I look forward to walking straight down the middle on main street, then I can install offline.

P.s. When I online installed Debian Bookworm RC 3 (chroot /target apt-get install sysvinit-core,) after, I installed refractainstaller-base and refractasnapshot-base. I got error so I tried ALL combinations of intel-microcode, install xz-utils, edit initramfs.conf.
I tried to keep intel-microcode but it had to go, I think it might be made of gorgonzola.

Andy.

Just installed,

devuan_daedalus_5.0.preview-20230527_amd64_netinstall

Apart from that spurious ignore on partman,

got to continue without boot loader
& finish.

Success

Marvel!
