tailscale error

Hello ,

have installed this service for accessing my NAS outside of the common homenetwork to which NAS is attached to.

now it seems it is not running on Devuan 4.0,
after installing it according to routine for "Debian Buaster"

manually like shown here
https://tailscale.com/download/linux/debian-buster

getting error

failed to connect to local tailscaled; it doesn't appear to be running

presume this is related to this system-d thing, have no other explanation.
is there a workaround for such issues?

thanks

I don't see this package in the Devuan Package Information page.

Devuan Package Information page, so I have to assume that you downloaded it from another source.

Obviously, YMMV but it is usually not a good idea.

Chances are (99%) that you are right.

Well ...
You run Devuan 4.0.
Devuan is Debian without the systemd crap in it.

As tailscale does not seem to be in the Devuan repositories, I don't think there's a workaround.

Best,

A.

Tailscale seems to be a WireGuard wrapper, and Devuan does have WireGuard in the repos, so one workaround might involve figuring out the config and using WireGuard directly.

Also, given the "it doesn't appear to be running" message, it's also possible it just uses systemd for running a service - if so the relevant service file can be converted to one compatible with [insert whatever kapqa's Devuan install is using for services].

In any case, Tailscale is a commercial service: so ask their support team and see what they say.
