Here's another "desktop" shot. Same machine, but running Devuan in a framebuffer console without X11.

It was surprising simple once I navigated the dependency maze caused by runit-init no longer being part of the init metapackage.

Re: Show your desktop (rebooted)

Thank you Ogis1975, all credits goes to Devuan NETINST. I only done some optimizations and tweaks.

It still boot the oddie for 12sec, and i come to desktop window manager CWM for 70MB everytime i reboot.

As an old hardware model with no SSD inside, i think im satisfied for it.

Thanks for your feedback as always bro.

Re: Show your desktop (rebooted)

Xmonad, by most of WM i know, this one and a few others have ran away without even trying it seriously.

I used default config for sure, i tried once editing config, made a big mess and didn't know what to do more so, i give up easly. Your scrot reminds me of when i was dealing with spectrwm or hlwm.
I was a beginner on tiling configs, I had extraordinary time by simply editing their "----rc" especially when it is was raining outside.

Not everyone is in a hurry, everyone according to the needs, sometimes rushing brings consequences and boredom. Who care if it's new if you are satisfied what's consist and have done yourself? Never rush for the sake of others or trends.

Very good optimization Ogis1975, minimalistic as ****.

The unicode bars colors @PS1, reminds me mIRC scripting days.
I used to generate many of those blocks colors back in the Windows IRC days smile

Thanks for the feedback, bro. I have a relatively minimal xmonad with xmobar config, which can be adapted to the needs of any user.

Here link for xmonad config

And here link for xmobar config

However, I decided to stop using xmobar because it is practically no longer needed by me.

Yes. It finally happened. Chimaera 4.0 is the current stable release. So. I installed it on one of the machines (did a clean install). On another machine i made a simple upgrade. In both cases, no problems arose. So thanks to the whole Devuan team!

This is 3rd time i have upgraded my old a$$ dual core. Originaly an E2180 upgraded to E5700 and currently E8600.
The improvements are significantly since the initial stages.

Now that the parts are ridiculously priced, it's worth doing tests. There are still room for other changes regarding memory from 4 to 8GB or even to a better proc Core™2 Quad.

Re: Show your desktop (rebooted)

Thus. I transfer my last computer to the Earth of Devuan. I totally refused to use Debian 11 after I get fed up with Systemd and this message

systemd-shutdown[1]: Waiting for process: systemd-udevd"

before shutting down/rebooting.

The Devuan system is now stable and predictable.

Re: Show your desktop (rebooted)

Devuan 4 + KDE

Devuan 4 with SysV, a basic KDE setup and a dark theme. Did a fresh install of Chimaera, installed xorg followed by kde-plasma-desktop. Then I just install any additional software I need (LibreOffice, vlc, okular, Kate, etc) and purge "kdeconnect". Most desktop effects are disabled. Bluetooth is disabled. No NetworkManager. Wifi is handled with network/interfaces. VPN through a perl script invoking openvpn. Stable, simple, low on system resources and pleasing to the eyes (to mine at least).

Very pleased with this setup & Chimaera was well worth the wait!
