Hello
In Expert(or Advancing) mode at installation, I don't find root and user with password initialization in multi forms chain.
I used both, Beowulf gold and chimera beta 3 network iso versions ~ 300MB iso file.
Are there alternative steps to add a root password ?
Best regards.

I always use Expert install and I can tell you that this is very weird. Please check the MD5 of the downloaded files. Double check that you don't miss any screen. Select "Allow root entry" "yes" (I'm not sure about the spelling; anyway I think that your language is not English).
Good luck.

What is Beowulf Gold? The step "Setup users and passwords" normally comes past setting up the network. In expert mode you just have to klick through that step. Maybe https://www.devuan.org/os/documentation … all-devuan helps to show what to expect. Chimaera isn't that much different.
Make sure you got the official downloads from Devuan.

Hello
Thanks for the answers.
I made two screenshots
- one for standard install line
- one for expert instant line
Please compare images. First has an entry for users. Second, don't.
I used screenshots from the chimera version.
Now, this version is in work and somebody has it in debug mode.
Regarding gold word, I used it for the current stable Devuan edition.
The problem exist also in the current stable Devuan edition.
You are so kind to tell the header of the configuration page where did you see "Allow root entry" "yes"
Because the problem arises in two Devuan versions md5 verification can wait.

No need for excuses. To fix that: you are allowed to edit your posts. In the bottom of the post your find 4 options, one is edit. This means you can delete the extra line.
To the installer: just did such an install of Chimaera into a VBox VM about a week ago, there it was no such issue. Looks like a bug in the latest installer?

I just tried the latest netinstall dated Sept 13th in VBox. The installer main menu misses the "Setup users and passwords" initially. I usually load the LVM and the static address bits during "Load installer components ...", and after that the "Setup users and passwords" suddenly is present.

It is under "Set up users and passwords".
If you don't allow root entry, your system is ala Ubuntu or MacOS, you need sudo in front of any administrative command (I don't like it) and you can't login as root.
If you allow root entry, you can write just there your root password. Then, you can login as root or use the su command to became root.
I'm sorry if you already know all this.

Hi
Even if you make a sudo install you can afterwards enable root by "sudo passwd root" in a terminal to give root login. But I prefer myself not to enable sudo to the standard user. More secure.
Have a nice day

Good point. I did it every time I had to use an stardard Ubuntu system.

Ageed. My Devuan syetems don't have sudo installed.
