Hi folks,
I have a question, I thought that Ligthdm wasn't available by default on Debian because systemd but I just checked it out and none a systemd's dependency is required:
apt install lightdm accountsservice xserver-xephyr -s
NOTE: This is only a simulation!
apt needs root privileges for real execution.
Keep also in mind that locking is deactivated,
so don't depend on the relevance to the real current situation!
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following additional packages will be installed:
libaccountsservice0 liblightdm-gobject-1-0 libxcb-xv0 lightdm-gtk-greeter
Suggested packages:
gnome-control-center
The following NEW packages will be installed:
accountsservice libaccountsservice0 liblightdm-gobject-1-0 libxcb-xv0
lightdm lightdm-gtk-greeter xserver-xephyr
How however I may be wrong, so can I install lightdm safely on my system?
Thanks in advance,
D.

I installed and use lightdm, lightdm-gtk-greeter and lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings without a problem in Cinnamon, Gnome, and even Plasma, in Beowulf and Chimaera.

Nice, today I felt its lacking... I would like to switch to another account to make my son finish his homework but I couldn't. I had to close my session and open his session...

Yes it works fine. ASCII, Beowulf, Chimaera, with Mate desktop & Cinnamon.

I know that you already installed it, but I would like to show a theme I did for webkit2 greeter:

I'm using it with Beowulf.

Thanks! I'm new to Devuan and replaced Slim with lightdm & slick-greeter.

Not only does lightdm work but today I got lightdm-webkit2-greeter working and have a nice fancy login screen.
I must write down how I got that working and the problems I solved, just incase anyone else wants to try it.

I'm using lightdm with slick greeter in Debbowulf. Seems to work ok though I notice the login screen shows when shutting down under sysv, which is wasn't doing under systemd in LMDE2 and 3 before the upgrade to Debbie/Beowulf

I have noticed that with all the greeters I have used, whether slim or lightdm
forgot to say I use runit

Hello,
it was not working for me, I mean, once lightdm installed along lightdm-gtk-greeter I could use it to login at first attempt, but then I could not use shutdown/reboot or exit session as simple user.
I found this post which has allowed me to solve it : https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=2282 the solution is 3 years old but it helped me sort it out.
