Init question

Hello forum, I have a question for you all...... forgive me if this seems a bit simplistic, but our distribution, I develop for is in the process of using Devuan as a base, between sysvinit  and openrc could you guys expand on the differences or pros and cons of each.... I have read up on  them but I wanted to see what this community thought. We are still at the cross roads as to which init to use at the moment.

Thank you in advance for any thought or comments/

Re: Init question

See https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Comparison_of_init_systems

It may be worth noting that OpenRC is still under development and is being maintained by the Gentoo developers and used by Alpine Linux, which is massively popular thanks to docker, so there are many "eyes on the code". Sysvinit is no longer under development and is being maintained by Jesse from DistroWatch...

Having said that the OpenRC option in Devuan only changes the service manager, sysvinit still runs as PID1.

Re: Init question

My 2c, I can't tell the difference. I can easily edit what runs to stop things I don't require with Openrc. But I have no technical knowledge of the differences.

My latest eee pc 4G install is 3.1 with runit. Am truly over the moon and the eee is very happy, I don't even care that it doesn't hibernate.

It idles at 19MB!
