unable to run photoqt

Hi,
Anyone else having issues running photoqt? No error message. nothing happens when trying to run it.
I'm on excalibur with lxqt

Run it from a terminal emulator and post the output?

it functions on devuan 7 with kde, it seems a handy app.

on devuan 6 with mate, there is probably missing some functionality?

it would open up, but there is not possible to open files - the screen would not respond to mouse commands.
